Social Profile:

Steamin’ Mad Crabs, LLC. was established in 2010 in a partnership with Wanda’s late son Bryan Rill who suddenly passed away in May of 2015. Wanda and Don, strive to continue the business in his honor fulfilling Bryan’s lifelong dream of opening his own seafood business. A family oriented business offering fresh, local quality foods with commitment to its patrons, Steamin’ Mad Crabs LLC. also offers a vide variety of products and gifts not available within our township. We can’t think of a better way to pair a fresh steamed batch of crabs than possibly with some Zoe’s Chocolates, South Mountain Creamery Dairy, Fisher’s Popcorn, or even a Smith Island Cake! All of this and more can be found in Wanda’s store on the south end of Hampstead!

I don’t often write reviews, but I have to share our wonderful experience with Steamin Mad Crabs in Hampstead, MD. We had a crab feast for my husband’s 50th birthday this past weekend, and ordered 4.5 bushels of large and extra large crabs. Not only did Wanda and Jess ‘hold my hand’ through ordering the proper amount for our large group (I’m not a crab eater, so I hadn’t a clue), but the crabs were a great size, DELICIOUS and full…this coming from a group of seasoned crab eaters! Every part of this experience was great. We will return. Highly recommend.

Small local fresh seafood market with lots of extra Maryland specialties. Great place for crabs, shrimp & fish. Salads and Desserts are available too! Don’t forget to have a look around at the attached store. Never know what kind of cool things you might find. Make sure you get seafood orders in early for holidays. Their seafood goes quickly!

Tried steaming mad crabs for the first time.
Overall a pleasant experience

Very nice service
Unfortunately they don’t have female crabs, which are my preference but that’s to be expected.

We got 2 dozen larges. They were absolutely delicious, only had 1 that wasn’t great, probably on the bottom of the pot.

It does appear that their sizing system is 1 measurement lower than most other crab shacks I have shopped at. The larges definitely seemed like mediums. But overall they tasted good and service was great.

We got the MD crab soup as well, that was great.

I wanted to take a moment to share some feedback regarding our recent order of crabs. After several years, my husband and I decided to give Steamin Mad another try, remembering how much we used to enjoy your crabs in the past. Unfortunately, this experience confirmed why we had stopped ordering.

When my husband picked up the crabs, he immediately noted how light they felt. While they had a great aroma, once he began opening them, it was clear something was off. The shells were paper-thin, and the meat was virtually nonexistent—completely hollow, with no sign of mustard. As a family with deep roots in the Chesapeake Bay area (Annapolis and Crisfield), we know what quality crabs should look and taste like. These were what we would call “#3s” or “whites”—crabs that typically aren’t even worth catching, let alone selling at over $10 each.

We genuinely appreciate that your staff handled the situation professionally and provided a refund, but the disappointment remains. It’s frustrating to plan for a special meal, only to be let down and left scrambling for a Plan B.

We’re sharing this in hopes that it helps improve future customer experiences. Unfortunately, this experience has made it unlikely we’ll return.

Today Mothers day I thought I would treat myself to crabs. $99 a dozen large. Mine were light & small, small to medium in my experience. I try to support local businesses but no one likes to feel taken advantage of. The size was 6” tip to tip. Now I am Steamin mad Monday The day after Mothers Day I called and spoke to Jess. She was very nice, asked if I had the shells? No today is trash day. As a one time solution she took my name and said to come back in the near future and they would make it right. I appreciate the offer and will go back soon.

Steamed crabs, crab deviled eggs, and crab soup were awesome! Didn’t love the crab cakes, but that may just be a personal taste thing. Nice people and cool gift store.

Been going to Steamin Mad for years. I drive up from Reisterstown, because these are the best crabs available for carryout. Always hot as the dickens, and full of meat and heavy. Seasoning perfect! I also purchased fresh oysters and shucked those at home. Equally as tasty.
