The service is always friendly and the orders are completed in a timely manner. So even if the line is super long, it doesn’t take long for the food. The menu is on a vestaboard and changes accordingly to what’s available for the day.
It’s well-priced and is pretty filling with the amount given. The plates not only come with your poke selections but also rice topped with furikake, crab salad, seaweed salad, and a scoop of spicy tuna. I tried a few different flavors of poke and they were all quite tasty. It’ll definitely one of my go-to poke places!
Best tasting and freshest poke place in Southbay, so far. My daughter had told me about this place months ago. I finally got to see and taste what the hype was all about. She treated me out yesterday and I am now a believer. Hands down! Fresh and delicious seafood all the way. 8th & B Poke adds plenty of good to National City’s restaurant selection. Wish we had this place closer to the border, where I live.
We ordered 3 dishes: 1) furikake, garlic tuna, citrus salmon 2) scallops, citrus salmon and garlic salmon 3) citrus salmon and garlic salmon
The only downside: parking and line. You will need to be at 8th & Poke way before 11am because food will only last a certain amount of hours. As their sign on door states, “until sold out.” This is not the place where they have back up stock to make more. There will be a line outside and only three at a time inside when placing your order.
When we finally got inside, our order was placed and food was ready to go in no time. We sat on the only stools facing the window and finished our food there. There were tables outside and no chairs, for customer use.
Highly recommend
Being our first time and the store being relatively new, I would’ve appreciated a little more conversation and insight from the cashier as to what made this poke shop stand out and I didn’t really feel that excitement coming from them. Another worker Soleil was attentive and caring for the rest of our time dining in.
My partner and I got lucky with finding two seats out of the 5 available in door to enjoy our meal, other seating including standing outside underneath a tarp on a metal table.
The poke was absolutely delicious and would be the sole reason for returning. Every single flavor we had was vivid and tasted delicious on the palate. The poke “bowl” on the other hand was another story; the rice felt crusty and old, imitation crab was dry and flaky, the spicy crab bowl and seaweed salad were some positive flavors and tastes. I prefer my rice in poke bowls to be a bit softer to blend with the smoothness of the fish, I feel the hard rice got in the way of the textures of the bowl; though that’s just a personal preference so I’m not docking any points for that.
Overall I will probably return in the near future and just hope service is a bit better and that my comments on the “bowl” part of the poke is taken into consideration. As it is a newer business I would love to see them improve and be very successful!
