The food was served quite quickly as they have a separate prep area for kiosk orders vs ordering in front of the food bar in person.
Birria Burrito Regular: The taste of the meat itself was good but it did not really reflect what I expect birria to taste like. It was tender juicy meat but not very flavorful. The taste was overpowered by pickled onions and so many bell peppers. It was also not wrapped correctly with the ends opened and all the filling to the side. I attempted to push the ends closed to eat but I would have had to unwrap and rewrap the entire thing. This resulted in an eating experience where the filling was all falling out and the sour cream was all over the bottom of the wrap from how it was originally wrapped.
Carnitas Regular Burrito: This felt more like a veggie burrito with meat than a carnitas burrito. Again this burrito was stuffed with pickled onion and peppers but barely had any meat. The meat itself did not have much flavor. This burrito was also wrapped incorrectly with the ends opened and filling outside of the side seam. Had to edit because my tortilla was literally sopping wet on the outside. Still not sure what that was.
Overall the burritos were annoying to eat as the fillings spilled everywhere.
Birria Taco: This one was a little misleading as the photo showed the taco coming with consume but it does not. Overall the taco shell was pretty good but again the meat was not that flavorful. You get probably a tablespoon / tablespoon and a half of meat in the taco.
The guac was brown on the top when you open the lid. I guess you know it is fresh since it browns but i don’t expect to get browned guac when paying around $3 for a small cup.
I am not sure that I would come back after this experience but if you do make sure to order in person as the workers seemed more experienced with making the items and wrapping the burritos. Portions and ratios of ingredients seemed better for those who ordered in person in front of the food bar.
I got a super steak burrito with salsa and guacamole, which I have plenty of experience with (particularly from the Harvard Ave location), and this was a far cry from what I used to love. Instead of tender and flavorful, the steak was cubed and very chewy. The burrito was also overstuffed with overcooked rice, and barely held itself together (something that Anna’s burritos typically excel at). My wife got the Carnitas and it was fine, but again, not nearly as enjoyable as it should have been.
Service was fine, dining in was clean and no issues there.
Anna’s was an absolute go to back in the day, and my choice for favorite burrito in the city. I would love to get that experience back, but work to be done at this location to get to that level.
You can order from two self-service screens at the entrance or go to the counter in the back to pick your ingredients as they make your bowl or burrito. The space is much bigger than the previous restaurant (B.Good), with plenty of indoor seating and a couple of outdoor tables. AC was on and set at a perfect temp—super comfortable inside.
We ordered a 10” and a 12” burrito. The 12” is huge—great for bigger appetites. The 10” was perfect for me. We had chipotle chicken with pico (has cilantro), pickled onions (so good!), peppers, rice, pinto beans, and sour cream (extra cost). Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. Also got chips and guac—the guac doesn’t have cilantro, which is great for those who don’t love it.
Bonus: I love when restaurants carry their decor into the restrooms—it’s a small detail, but it really shows care and attention to the space. Overall, a great experience and we’ll definitely be back!
Extremely disappointing experience and not at all how I remember Anna’s Taqueria.
