I’ve tried many items on the menu, but the traditional gyros plate, feta with olives, and bougatsa cream (dessert) are my favorites. The gyro meat itself is seasoned to perfection. The pita bread was baked and had a crunch unlike a soggy pita you’d find at other establishments. For the most part, every item on the menu is a step above the average gyro in the area.
Some might think the portion to price ratio is off, but I personally think the quality and care here elevates this to a more traditional Greek restaurant rather than a run down hot dog stand where some might be used to ordering late night gyros.
The staff is always super friendly and eager to answer any questions I had about menu items I’m unfamiliar with.
All I can say is Yaya Mas is legit. If you’re in the neighborhood, definitely swing by.
I ate my last meal so quick, I forgot to snap pics of the food. I’ll share next time I visit…
We shared the gyros with double meat and extra feta. The gyros was tasty yet not overwhelmingly seasoned and nicely served on a wooden platter.
For dessert, we had two portions of bougatsa, a crispy pastry filled with vanilla custard. It was a bit less sweet than what you would get in Greece, but that was actually more to our personal liking.
Staff (even though not from Greece ;)) was helpful and genuinely friendly. All in all a very pleasant experience. The only thing we would wish for on our next visit is softer music – the very loud and thematically not fitting music during our visit distracted from the cute Greek holiday atmosphere. Everything else was great.
The Greek food is among the best we’ve had, and the baklava is top shelf perfection
The only thing that could have been a little better is that the tables are just a tiny bit too small. Even so, we were very happy with our experience and highly recommend visiting.
The portions were very small, everything arrived lukewarm, and the overall quality felt more like frozen or microwaved food than freshly prepared. The “rigatoni with tomatoes and oregano” turned out to be penne pasta with plain marinara—no cheese, no seasoning, and nothing close to the dish described. The wood-fired bread/pizza tasted more like something frozen than baked fresh, and the vegetable briam was just soggy pieces of eggplant, zucchini, and potato in tomato sauce, nothing like the vibrant roasted dish pictured on the menu. Even the hummus was bland and slightly off in flavor, with just a single olive placed in the middle. It looked and tasted like it was taken out of a Sabra hummus container and placed in their own plastic container.
For the price point (over $80 for everything), we expected much more in terms of flavor, freshness, and presentation. The menu and photos suggest beautifully prepared dishes, but what arrived didn’t match in taste, quality, or appearance.
Unfortunately, we won’t be ordering from here again. We could barely get a few bites in from each dish before tossing everything.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and despite being semi-packed, the service was impressively fast. The menu selection was incredible, with a variety of dishes to suit every taste. I loved the different varieties of Greek cuisine they offered – it felt like a taste of Greece in the heart of Chicago!
Overall, I’m so impressed with Yaya Mas Greek Kuzina and can’t wait to go back. If you’re looking for authentic Greek food with great customer service, this is the place to be!”
-Gryo sandwich
-Bougatsa
Delicious gyro sandwich! It’s a very obvious big step up from some of the others in the city. Very warm and filling. Good sauce to meat ratio.
The bougatsa was sooooo tasty. I’m going to be thinking about it forever and will definitely be the item that brings me back here. The pastry was the perfect amount of flakiness. Not too overly sweet of a custard either!
The gentleman at the front was very nice too 🙂
The menu sounded so good I decided to grab an early lunch after my mtg. The spanakopita was flaky and perfectly crispy! The gyros was full of flavor – AND not too dry/not too greasy!!
I ordered baklava to go because it’s a favorite. I didn’t take a pic, but it was fantastic-dripping with honey.
I enjoyed Yaya Mas so much, I dragged my spouse and friends later that week.
