Big Wong is a must-visit, especially if Oscar is working. He’s hilariously goofy and kept us smiling the entire meal—the guy is pure good vibes.
He served us the pig intestine, and it was surprisingly delicious and super tasty. We’re already craving more! We’ll definitely be back soon to get our fix and hang out with Oscar again. Highly recommend!
Beef chow fun was just okay and lacked flavor on our visit. Also the roast pork wonton egg noodle soup completely has zero flavor in the broth and a soup. Beef and broccoli was just okay.
They open until 3am, so this place is a great place to get Chinese food late after games, shows, etc. in DC.
18%tip is already added to your check so you don’t need to add additional tip. Overall, this place has decent Chinese food in DC Chinatown, pricey, but fast food for late night outings since they stay open very late.
I stopped by for the first time today and was seriously impressed. The moment I walked in, the staff greeted me warmly and made me feel right at home. The place has that perfect cozy, good vibe you expect from a great Chinese spot.
I ordered crab rangoons, pork fried rice, and hot & sour soup and everything was amazing. The crab rangoons were perfectly crispy with a creamy filling that actually tasted like real crab, not just cream cheese. The pork fried rice was flavorful, packed with tender pieces of pork, and had that fresh-off-the-wok taste you can’t fake. And the hot & sour soup? One of the best I’ve had in a long time rich, balanced, and super comforting.
New Big Wong delivers quality and flavor every time. I’m already planning my next visit. Highly recommend!
I guess out of a place that serves frog legs, Hunan and Szuchuan style dishes on the menu I expected the Crispy Szechuan Beef would not have come out tasting exactly like the American-Chinese Beijing Beef from Panda Express that you can buy for $10 and I paid $25 for. It was more sweet and no spice at all.
Not sure if they cater to a Chinese client base or tailor their food to the American palate but I was definitely disappointed with the Szechuan Beef.
I tried calling in advance to clear up some questions but the line listed doesn’t work so the only option listed is to complete an online order and that doesn’t permit their entire menu.
Hidden, in the basement of a chinatown business front…is New Big Wong. It’s been around in downtown DC like forever! Be careful when driving are looking for this place because …. one blank of an eye while driving down the H Street Chinatown area, you might miss it. It’s just that in assuming… especially at night. lol.
The food is delicious and the prices are very good. The portions are big here too….. not to mention the meats & vegetables used are always fresh.
My go to and one dish that is always on realest and that this restaurant is famous for is the “Dry Scallop Fried Rice” dish! It’s one of the best. It comes in one size and is loaded with shrimp scallops crab meat ….& lot of flavor! The Peking Duck dish is another favorite of mine from this restaurant as well. On any given day, you will find the restaurant pretty crowded which is a good sign, but both carryout and dine in available if ever in the area. This restaurant tends to get a lot of Uber eats DoorDash orders I noticed as well.
I definitely recommend if you’re looking for authentic Cantonese cuisine and good Hong Kong fare….. that is on an American-Asian carryout vibe ….. This is your place! Most meals are roughly around $15 to $20 and the servings are huge.
Worth every penny…. Go here and thank me later!
