From the very first call at 4, Primo’s set the tone. Andrea answered the phone and was incredibly kind and helpful. I asked if we needed reservations for a party of two within the next half hour and she let me know it should be fine but that they usually fill up around 5–6 pm (appreciated the honesty). I also asked about mocktails… and yes, they have them. Big win!

I was getting all dolled up and wanted somewhere fancy, and Primo’s absolutely delivered!! Walking in felt like stepping back in time, in the best way. Frank Sinatra, BB King, and other classics playing in the background, candlelit tables, warm beige walls, romantic old-school vibes. Cozy, classy, nostalgic… whatever the word is, it was a whole mood and I was fully there for it.

When we arrived, there were only two other tables seated, which made it feel intimate and relaxed. By the time we left? The place was completely packed and clearly for good reason.

Sal was our server and walked us through the specials. He was fantastic from start to finish, super personable and genuinely fun to talk to. We started with a dozen oysters (so good we immediately ordered another dozen.) We also ordered the octopus because we love trying it everywhere we go. This was the only thing that wasn’t a home run; it was a bit chewy/rubbery. That said, octopus is tricky, and I’d still be willing to try it once more.

We shared the porterhouse steak and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked, flavorful, and absolutely worth it.

Dessert? We basically ordered everything except the white chocolate bread pudding (next time!). I had a cappuccino to go with dessert and it was perfect!
• Panacotta: my absolute favorite—light, silky, and incredible
• Olive oil cake: warm, moist, dreamy
• Tiramisu: outstanding (was that an Oreo/chocolate crumble on top??)
• Chocolate Mousse: So light and fluffy
• Chocolate Ganache: thick and delicious with a caramel top.

Mocktails deserve their own shoutout.
• Gin Thyme mocktail: good not too sweet.
• Hibiscus Ginger Smash: SO good—bright, refreshing, sweet and delicious
Next time I’m trying the PearRita for sure.

My partner ordered real cocktails:
• Apricot Fig Old Fashioned: Great!
• Barrel-Aged Paper Plane: so fantastic he ordered a second

Service across the board was amazing. After dessert came out, Sal even offered to take our photo, which was such a thoughtful touch and really speaks to the level of care here. You can tell he love hospitality. Even the check was brought out inside an old book, A Judy Bolton Mystery. Such a classic, charming detail. I wish we had asked if we could write in it like others apparently had. I regret not leaving a little note.

On the way out, I stopped at the bar to thank Andrea (bartender who had also taken my call) and made sure she was tipped well. I’m glad I did, because tips are kept separate from dining room and bar. So if you order drinks while you’re at a table, make sure you tip your bartender separately!

All in all: incredible service, fantastic atmosphere, amazing food and drinks, and thoughtful little details that make the experience special.

We will absolutely be back!!!

We were in South Lake Tahoe celebrating my friends birthday and looking for a place that was open late Sunday night. Ended up coming to Primos, they had bar menu since it was after 9 PM. They menu had a couple entrees and some appetizers. I had the chicken carbonara and my friend had the shrimp chicken alfredo. absolutely delicious, service was amazing and fast. Light atmosphere felt so fancy and elegant and very relaxing. Oh, and the drinks! We had the old fashioned and the mai tai, absolutely delicious. Very good selection of wines as well. Recommend 10/10, the server brought my friend a pudding dessert with a candle ! Definitely would recommend and come back next time we are in town.

Stopped here on a whim for brunch from seeing a sign driving by and every other brunch place was crazy crowded in Tahoe. This place was AMAZING! Seriously so flavorful and we had the best server named Nicole, the bartender makes a delicious hazelnut americano and I don’t think we could have had a better experience! My boyfriend got the octopus and said it was the best he’s ever had. The Italian take on potatoes was phenomenal. I’ve never made a review on anything before but that’s just how great the food and service was here. Highly recommend!!!

Last week, my friend, Doug, my cousin, Antonio, his girlfriend, Margarida and I (luisa) were visiting my son, Ben, a long time resident of S. Tahoe. On Thursday evening, 2/19, Ben suggested going to see his friend, Jessica at one of his favorite neighborhood Italian restaurants, Primos. After being indoors for 3 days due to the huge snow storm, it was such a treat going out to dinner at this unique, welcoming, family restaurant.
From the moment we walked in and were introduced to Jessica, Ben’s friend & bartender, we felt right at home. She was so friendly & personable. The ambiance is warm & welcoming, the food is unique & delicious, the service is friendly, personal & professional.
Jessica mixed some delicious Old Fashions;
Paul, our server, was friendly, attentive, made some excellent wine suggestions & highlighted the night’s specials. We ordered the sea bass, the burrata salad, mussels, the Vodka pasta, lasagna, & eggplant Parmesan. Every entree was delicious and had an amazing presentation.
Everything was perfect; we even had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Jim Primo.
I highly recommend experiencing this fabulous restaurant & look forward to returning.

I don’t know why it took us so long to try this place out! It’s fantastic! The octopus is one of the best I’ve ever had! (And I try it every opportunity I get). Salad, pasta, wine, atmosphere, all 5 stars! We will be back often and bringing friends too. Very few elevated, or even good, options near the Y, so don’t skip this spot!

So glad I found this place on google maps! The creamy spinach with truffle paired with the lamb rack was amazing! (I will be back to have it again) the small plates/appetizers were a great sharing size and tasty! Not in the photos but the tiramisu was so fluffy and lite. 10/10 a great experience and will be back when in Tahoe!

One of the highlights of our South Lake Tahoe trip! Primo has everything you need for a wonderful night out- best atmosphere, top-notch food and best friendly server. We had our pup with us thus opted for their patio seating. It was beautifully decorated with a fireplace and checkered rooftop with surrounding glass walls. Plenty of parkings around. We were seated promptly. Our server Aisha was super attentive and considerate as she made sure to give us space while ensuring we had everything we needed. They offered free Italian popcorn which was super delicious! We ordered their squid, lamb racks, hot link sausages pasta, a bottle of Sangiovese wine (Made in Italy) and Tiramisu for dessert. Everything was made to perfection. Portion was generous and price was so reasonable! Overall, we had such a great experience there and would totally come back next time we’re in Tahoe. A huge shoutout to our server Aisha for her beyond-amazing service! Highly recommended this place!

Veal was tough and overcooked – twice (removed from the bill.). The grilled octopus was burnt and crispified. Pasta overdone for my taste but I like it to have a little bite and non mushy.
Our server was fantastic and tried to make things right; even bringing a complementary chocolate mousse dessert which was pretty good. The kitchen just couldn’t this night.
For these prices, I expect better; a lot better. I do believe this place could be great but maybe had a bad night. Unfortunately, I’m just passing through and won’t be back to verify.
