Nuanced flavors in one of the better Japanese curry dishes I’ve had. Pork cutlet was nice and crispy and the omelet fluffy. I can only really speak ill of the cheese sauce. It was almost like a cheese foam and had very little flavor or substance. Skip that add on. Otherwise, I’m happy to return. Especially for that spice to the curry. A whole other level of flavor.

Japanese curry is my least favorite food, but when I saw the “Award Winning” label, I couldn’t resist trying it. I was so glad we came, and it was indeed the best Japanese curry I’ve ever had! I love the texture and flavors.

Unfortunately, we had to order for takeout since it was late, but the food still tasted amazing. The pork cutlet was tasty, less fatty, and not rubbery at all!

I’m a big Japanese curry fan. Maji Curry is a must try, and it great that they have won curry awards in Japan where curry competitions are serious business. I had the classic pork cutlet and it was delicious. Come take advantage of authentic Japanese curry.

At first, I was curious about the taste because the menu and pickled sides were similar to Coco Ichibanya. But I ended up really enjoying it because the seasoning wasn’t too strong. I ordered it spicy, and it was incredibly flavorful. The melted cheese was rich and savory, and the omelet egg was super soft. Also, the fried items were perfectly crispy and really well done. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal!
The space is a bit on the smaller side, but it’s fine if it’s not too crowded. If there are a lot of people, though, you might need to wait.

Pork cutlet was great, not too fatty. The cheese sauce was a little bland. Overall very delicious curry sauce. Recommend!!

Great alternative to Curry House. Maji Curry boasts award-winning Japanese curry with a simple menu of popular proteins, curry, and a handful of toppings (including a melted, creamy cheese to pour over your curry). So, of course, I was curious: does it hold up?

The answer is mostly yes. The curry itself is a bit spicy, even at the mild level, and is a thicker consistency compared to the usual Japanese curry. The flavor of the curry sauce is dark and rich, and the rice was cooked perfectly. The accompanying pickles also tasted like they were freshly made and were a delicious addition to the curry.

The Lows: The Hamburg Curry with Cheese did not meet the hype for me, primarily because the Hamburg was not soft or delicate as most Hamburg in Japan would be. Perhaps more to American taste – they served a well-done patty. When I asked if they could cook the beef medium rare, to my surprise, the server let me know that they would not be able to adjust the cook.

The cheese sauce was pretty good on its own but gets lost in the rich curry sauce. For this reason, I would not recommend adding the cheese if you’re being calorie-conscious.

The Highs: the Pork Cutlet Curry! The cutlet was thick, juicy, and delicious, and the cook of the meat was great. The Vegetables (which can act as its own curry or a side) and the Eggplant are both also great. Tenderly cooked and well-seasoned stars.

The service pacing was decent and the servers were pretty friendly, but the restaurant is far too small for the potential demand of curry lovers.

The interior has seating for maybe 7-8 small parties (mostly for parties of 2), and on the night we visited, a large party took up half the restaurant so it took over an hour for a seat for 3 folks. Things may improve once it’s warm enough for outdoor seating (though there are only a couple of tables outside too).

Would I come back? Absolutely! With that said, I’d recommend to come with a small group (preferably just 2 people) and avoid the dinner rush and get here very early or late. And order the pork cutlet and/or veggie curry – they’re fantastic!

The beef and spinach curry is amazing. The pork cutlet is overcooked. The curry sauce is the best in town. The hamburger steak is flavorful. I love this place and will definitely to come back again. Oh! The French fries is also great. The price is affordable.

Maji Curry is one of our favorite Japanese restaurants in Irvine, CA. Their award-winning dishes are always a hit with my family. When my kids want to have curry rice, they ask us, “Can we go to Maji Curry?” The taste is even better than Coco Ichibanya, a popular competitor with better business.

However, the restaurant’s small space can be a bit cramped, and service can sometimes be slow because only one staff member is attending to customers.

Every time we go there, I don’t see many customers. I have the feeling that their business does not run well. Is it because the owner does not know how to effectively market it or does not care about the food business? I hope the owner can enhance their marketing and pricing strategy to ensure better business.

Overall, it’s still a place we enjoy dining in.

The food is pretty good and it’s a different flavor than other curry places but this place is a good and cheaper alternative. They offer different sizes and spice levels. The restaurant has a nice decor but not a lot of seating inside. The server is attentive and respectful. We ordered an omelet with karaage curry and eggplant, katsu curry, and omelet with hamburger steak and eggplant. I liked the hamburger best ❤️

Decided to try out this restaurant one evening on a whim. It’s a rather small venue for dine-in (great for pick up orders), but the staff will take good care of you if you decide to eat there. The food was incredible. The curry was more flavorful than Vermont or Coco ichibanya. THE PICKLES!! I nearly ate the entire container of pickles, they were that good. I can’t wait to come back. (I woke up this morning craving it, leading me to write this review).
