The bread service was an unexpected highlight. The warm, rustic loaf arrived with a beautifully crisp exterior and a soft, cloud-like center. It came with a creamy, herb-infused spread that smelled like it had just been whisked together in the kitchen. It’s the kind of bread that makes you stop mid-conversation to say, “Wait, this is really good.”
But the star of the evening for me was the duck confit ravioli. The dish was luxurious without being heavy tender pasta pockets filled with rich, silky duck that practically melted on the tongue. The sauce tied everything together with a balance of savory depth and just a hint of brightness. Every bite tasted intentional and thoughtfully crafted.
Appalachia Restaurant feels like the kind of place where the chefs cook with heart and the staff truly wants you to enjoy your night. If you’re anywhere near Lake Lure, this spot absolutely deserves a visit. I’m already looking forward to going back!
On our first visit, we were warmly welcomed by Megan and seated with stunning views of the lake. We began with a creative bite from the chef and a delicious potbelly appetizer, paired perfectly with a smoky old-fashioned. But nothing could’ve prepared me for the lamb chop special by executive chef Tyler Seigle, and his team. It was truly mind blowing, every component on the plate showed passion, care, and artistry. I knew immediately that we’d be back the very next day.
When we returned, it was clear that our first visit wasn’t a fluke. If anything, it was even better. This time, Sydney, chef Tyler‘s wife took wonderful care of us. It was heartwarming to see the couple working together, and you could truly taste the harmony in the food. Appalachia restaurant strikes a perfect balance, casual dining that makes you feel welcome paired with Michelin style quality on the plate. Lake Lure is lucky to have such a gem, and we can’t wait to return again.
I’ve eaten all over the United States and in a few other countries, and I can honestly say this was the best food I’ve ever had. Executive Chef Tyler Seigle, along with his team and his wife Sydney, deliver one of the most passionate, precise, and inspiring culinary experiences I’ve encountered not just in North Carolina, but anywhere.
On our first night, our server Megan started us off with the pork belly appetizer, and I chose the duck confit as my entrée. Every plate was executed with such skill and passion that we knew immediately we had to return the very next day rather than try any other restaurant in the area.
On our second night, Sydney was our server, and we began with the Wagyu sampler an extraordinary tasting of American, Australian, and Japanese variations. My entrée, sage gnocchi with duck, was so masterfully prepared that I felt genuine sadness knowing I couldn’t eat here for every meal for the rest of my life.
This place isn’t just a restaurant it’s an experience. Appalachia is truly a gem, and we will absolutely be back.
First of all, almost all of the tables have a great view of the lake which is great.
The bar is very cozy and makes great special drinks as well as the classics, beer and wine.
Service was fantastic and very accommodating. We used reservations when we went and would expect that this is the only way to go as it is busy.
The food is well above any other food we have seen in the area and we liked it enough to return there for our second evening while staying in the area.
Appetizers are not only fantastic, but also well sized. I may never order another pork belly item unless I am back at this place.
The lamb, veal, scallops, salads and tuna tartar items are wonderful and the other items we saw delivered look just as great.
We ate other places during the day but I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else while in the area for dinner. And as a final note, unless you are allergic to dairy, whatever ice cream is on the desert menu, order it – period.
We spend approximately six weeks a year in the area and dine out six nights a week at upscale restaurants, so our expectations are high. This experience was absolutely worth the 45-minute drive and will stand out as a true highlight of our holiday and anniversary celebration.
The Chef deserves Michelin-level recognition for this thoughtfully curated and creative menu—each ingredient complemented the next perfectly. A special thank you as well to our server, Lisa, who took exceptional care of us throughout the evening.
We plan to return on New Year’s Eve and hope to stay on site this coming summer. A truly memorable experience.
