Alta Mura in Hinsdale is an absolute gem — truly a little slice of Italy right in the suburbs. The moment you walk in (or open a catering order), you can feel the authenticity and heart behind everything they do. If you want to feel like you’re in Italy, this is the place.
The quality of the food is unmatched — fresh, flavorful, and consistently incredible. You can tell it’s family-owned and operated in the best way: warm, welcoming, and genuinely caring about every detail. Carmela brings such an authentic touch (she’s from Italy!), and it shows in every bite.
And the bread… unreal. Knowing it comes from Altamura makes it even better — it’s the kind of bread you keep thinking about after the meal is over.
We cater Alta Mura for pretty much every event because it’s always a hit. You have to try the eggplant (seriously, it’s perfection), and no one — I mean no one — does a charcuterie spread like Carmela. Beautiful, abundant, and delicious.

Always a great experience when we visit Altamura. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The food is always great.
My wife is gluten intolerant and the flour used for the pizza dough (imported from Italy) doesn’t affect her. We regularly order their take and bake and enjoy it at home – much to her pleasure, because it’s actual pizza, not like your typical alternative crusts.
Online ordering is easy to use and allows us to visit around our schedule for the day.
Aside from take and bake, soups and other cooler items, such as their meatballs, reheat well at home. Hungry while you’re there? A small warmer typically houses great food to eat on the go.
Simply put – you can’t miss with a stop in at Altamura.

Ordered a pan of gluten free lasagna. Very disappointing. Yes, I know gluten free noodles can be risky, but the lasagna itself was poorly created. Very little ricotta, if any, very little sauce as well. The sauce was bland and the lasagna was only lasagna noodles piled high. The 4-5 people that tried it, all had the same reaction. From the reviews of this place, it appears to be favorable. We have not eaten here before and will give it another shot; but not from the gluten free options.

Place has some of the greatest pizzas I’ve ever tried. This is a nice cozy place in the mid downtown Hinsdale with high-mid-end prices. Diavola and Margherita are incredible, though, I didn’t like 5 Formaggi as much. Anyways, I can definitely recommend this place

Had great pizza yesterday from here. We really enjoyed the gluten free and non gluten free pizza. Very simple but extremely delicious. Grab a pizza or take it home and bake it! You won’t be disappointed!

This is a must try. We have stopped in here few times to pick up ingredients for make your own pizza night. (See final result pictured) Their products are fresh and authentic.
In addition to their awesome menu – everyone is always so sweet and eager to serve. A true definition of a family owned/run business.

We had plans for another place for lunch, until we walked in a got an unstoppable craving for pizza based on the smells alone. This place is the epitome of small cozy food spot. They know a lot about where they source their ingredients from, and they have ingredients that make it easier for those with gluten issues (real flour instead of cauliflower crust!) They make a lot of pizzas and dishes that can be taken and baked at home, but we got a couple pizzas cooked there and they were delicious. I’m glad this place isn’t down the street or I would spend way too much here all the time. 10/10 Owners are super nice too!
