What a great restaurant! The food is amazing! I love that you use the spongy, thin, bread to grab the food and eat that way. They also provide forks if you choose not to eat the traditional way. But they have a great menu with meat or vegetarian options. The sambussas are so good and have a little spice to them and the sauce they serve with them is amazing and spicy! Also love having Ethiopian beer with it. And finished it off with an Ethiopian tea. Can’t wait to go back and try other items.

I love Ethiopian food and have had it in multiple cities over the years. Unfortunately, this is the worst Ethiopian food I have had so far: bland food, and the dry injera. The food unfortunately missed all the notes in a good Ethiopian meal for me.

I ordered the meat combo and got the gluten free injera. Everything was amazing! Loved this place!

I was jonsing for Injera while watching a baseball game at Oracle park. This place is walking distance from the stadium. As a kid I was invited to my Ethiopian friends family gatherings and the food at House of Tadu Ethiopian kitchen brought so many childhood memories. I had the meat combo platter. The flavors were exactly what I remembered and the Injera was on point ❤️

First time trying Ethiopian food. It’s definitely a different taste compared to most foods that I’ve eaten. The service is great and the restaurant is in a good location. You should give it a try since it’s made by good people. The taste wasn’t something that mixed well with my palette but I’m glad I tried it.

Gorgeous deep flavors. I had the vegetarian plate (sampling of four dishes). The red chickpea dish was outstanding, as were the beets and the dressing on the side salad. My friend commented when enjoying the portion I’d brought home that they liked how the food was not oversalted, thus you can taste the full flavors of the vegetables and spices. Beautiful clean food. The person who greeted me and took my order was super lovely; she in fact was my deciding factor to give it a try based on her enthusiasm for the food (that always helps!). The chef came out to check on me (granted, it was slow)–very warm and lovely. I requested a bit of the veg that had not been served up with the cabbage dish, and she was gracious about bringing it to me. The carrots in that dish really absorb the beautiful spices; I found the potatoes and cabbage needed more of the spice infusion. Beautiful injera, from my limited experience. Wonderful large photo art–done by a pair of S.F. architects (their write-up about their travels in Ethiopia is by the self-serve water station)–of people from the various tribes they encountered in their travels impressively covers the main walls of this casual but warm restaurant on the commercially developed stretch of 4th St just along from the UCSF Mission Bay campus. Very worth stopping in after any appointments/visits at the medical center! I appreciate that they have cushioned banquette seating along the windows. Continued success to you, House of Tadu! Ethiopian cuisine is the best best best! And it is always wonderful to learn and experience more of this rich and devout ancient culture.

I really wanted to like this place but found the food underwhelming. The vegetarian combination plate looked good but tasted quite bland. Both salt and spice were lacking and there was no option to add those.

Good food, a little bit understaffed, there were many tables but only one person serving, cleaning, cashing out.
There are certainly better restaurants for this but It’s really nice to have an Ethiopian option in the neighborhood.
The food is good enough to scratch the itch.
Lots of vegetarian options. Good for the family to eat.

the entire experience was seamless – there was a lot of outdoor spaces, I ordered the sambusa and the veggie combo which came out in a few minutes – the food was delicious and some of the items in the veggie combo was not the typical combo, regardless it was delicious. they also served us an Ethiopian tea with spices which was absolutely divine! would recommend it a 100% the staff was absolutely amazing and gracious and made us feel right at home. would come back as much as possible!

I finally had the chance to dine here. As a family, we tend to have Ethiopian quarterly. And because we live near Telegraph and Alcatraz in Oakland, we’ve tried a lot places. Today, I can say this is now my #1 choice for Ethiopian food.
Fresh, flavorful, delicious, wonderful hospitality and the best red lentils!
I ordered the Chicken Tibs medium spice with the Alicha Tikil Gomen. The Tibs was so flavorful. Spice wise it was just right for me. If any spicier I would have been sweating. The flavors here is what makes this place shine above the rest. The cabbage was super fresh; well cooked still with a crunch.
Service was very warm and welcoming. We had a conversation about their spice levels and they gave me a sample of the red lentils for a level check.
Ambiance was beautiful. The music was great and the photo exhibit was awesome. The whole setting and food really took you away.
Nexttime I’m going to bring the family and order a veggie combo and a meat combo.
Highly recommend it
