We randomly stopped by Q39 South on a Tuesday, and the fact that it was packed on a weekday was a great sign. The venue has a beautiful, modern open-floor plan with a really cool vibe. Even though it’s a dedicated BBQ joint, the menu is impressively balanced—they have everything from standard BBQ plates and sandwiches to some surprisingly good healthy options.
The food was spot on. The menu is simple and easy to navigate, which I prefer. We tried the ribs, brisket, and chicken, and every bit of it was delicious, lean, and perfectly cooked. The ribs were a standout, and they have this honey sauce that is 10/10. We also had their onion appetizer, which is basically a really elevated version of a Bloomin’ Onion.
We did have a small hiccup where we were seated and forgotten for about 10 minutes, but the manager was great—he caught the mistake and brought us a free appetizer, which totally made up for it. After that, the service was quick and very attentive.
Parking can be a bit tight and the building is tucked back from the street, but it’s a highly successful spot for a reason. Whether you’re a local or a business traveler, it’s a perfect place for a casual afternoon or a solid dinner. I’ll definitely be back many more times.

Our recent visit to Q39 South was an exceptional experience. The customer service was exemplary, the meats were expertly seasoned and remarkably tender, and the salads were notably fresh, complemented by perfectly chilled beverages. The establishment’s decor provides a warm and welcoming ambiance. Our server, Christee, was particularly outstanding, offering insightful recommendations, demonstrating meticulous attention to detail, and maintaining a consistently pleasant demeanor. The entire operation functions with remarkable efficiency, from management to staff. Every team member, with the exception of the culinary staff, actively participates in serving patrons, ensuring their satisfaction, replenishing beverages, and engaging in cordial conversation. Overall, it was a highly positive experience. We anticipate returning and will certainly recommend Q39 South to our family and friends.

After living in the Kansas City metro and being a BBQ fan, I finally had the chance of eating at Q39. This BBQ chain doesn’t give you the regular KC BBQ vibes but was still delicious. I’m used to standing in line to order my BBQ instead of relying on waitresses. I’ve never had the opportunity to eat here because the restaurant is always busy no matter what day. Luckily I was able to eat here after being off during a weekday. I was gifted a gift card as a Christmas present by family so I decided to try this restaurant. The restaurant had plenty of seating to bring your family. The menu consisted of mostly BBQ sandwiches and burgers. I settled for the Brisket Poutine which I surprisingly enjoyed and wasn’t too pricey. I would definitely eat here again. I hope Q39 will be able to expand their chain throughout the KC metro especially in Johnson County.

Food was above average good brisket good sausage. Server was great. Seemed to only have one sauce. They brought sauce with food, asked for hot sauce it all tasted exactly the same.

Here’s where the trouble lies portion size vs dollar amount. You waaaaaay over pay. My buddy and I travel to one new bbq place every weekend or every other weekend.

For 60 dollars my girlfriend got a sandwich, fries and drink and I got a platter.

Platter contained probably 6oz of meat at best. 2 pieces of brisket, 5 little sausage round not even a whole sausage fried and drink. It looked like a kids plate. I’ve eaten at probably 30 BBQ places in kc and this was absolutely the worst portion to dollar. K&m being best portion to dollar and best taste.

Don’t get enough for the money. Seriously a joke. This was my sandwich killer combo from k&m last week. Our cost there was 20 bucks less more food better taste. K&m rated top 5 in kc in wall street Journal. Will never eat Q39 again. Pic of killer combo sandwich. And a 25 dollar 3 meat platter from another BBQ place. That brisket is 3 pieces one thicker than my phone with cover.

Q39 is one of my favorite places in Kansas! I love dining here—the food is absolutely delicious! The only thing is I always want more burnt ends, they’re that good! Service is super fast and the staff is always friendly. The restaurant is usually very busy, so making a reservation is a good idea. We didn’t have one and ended up waiting about 25 minutes.

I was traveling for work from Seattle. I heard from a colleague that this place was packed when she went so I made an online reservation. My server was ben he helped me decide what to order. The food did not disappoint. I dont know when I’ll ever be back in the area but when I am I’m definitely coming back. This place was so good I bought 2 bottles of sauce and some dry seasoning to take home.

This is my first time in Kansas City, other than driving through several years ago, and I’ve always wanted to try barbecue here. This place did not let me down!

I ordered the judges plate which consisted of picking three items. I chose ribs, pulled pork, and brisket with two sides of street corn and potato salad.

The ribs were barbecued to perfection as what are the brisket, the pulled pork left a little to be desired. The barbecue sauce that comes with it was very tasty but a bit sweet for my liking.

The sides, potato salad, and corn, were fantastic! Probably the best potato salad I’ve ever tasted.

Great beer, selection, and the atmosphere was pretty good. I sat in the bar since I was there by myself and did not make reservations, but I was comfortable surrounded by good people, and Katie, the waitress was very attentive and professional.

If you’re in town, come, eat here!

Jessica was an excellent server providing us with recommendations and reviewing the menu with us as we were new to Q39. She brought us a flight of sauces since we were unfamiliar with the restaurant. The sauses were excellent but in my opinion the meat didn’t need any additional flavoring. We had the burnt ends and brisket plate with homemade chips and Mexican street corn. We added the pork belly appetizer and a salad. We split the salad as it was huge. We also split the plate. The meal was perfect proportions.
