We went on Valentines day on the off chance of grabbing lunch. (We didn’t book, so somewhat busy.) We were seated in the terrace and our drink and food orders were taken. The drinks came out after 10 minutes and the food came out after…1¼ hours. My wife had half a lobster (which looked like it had been on a diet) and salad. I had mussels in a white sauce and sweet potato chips. The chips and salad were both at an additional costs. My wife wasn’t impressed by the amount of meat on her lobster, I was very impressed by the amount of mussels and sauce. We then had a dessert. Unfortunately, the wrong menu was bought out. My wife had a red velvet cake (which we were informed was freshly made…yesterday) and I had strawberry pavlova. My wife wasn’t happy that it wasn’t moist and wasn’t a red velvet cake all the way through as vanilla sponge layers had been added and had dried out. My pavlova was good with lots of fresh strawberries and cream. The service did let it down. Now, I know that they’re very busy especially today, but waiting an hour and 15 minutes for our meals to arrive was ridiculous. I had to go to the bar to order replacement drinks as we were seated in a conservatory and seemed that we were forgotten about.
Total cost was £65 with two zero alcohol beers and two Appletisers.
My son wanted to try it for his birthday. The food was outstanding literally couldn’t fault it, but I am a little disappointed that I was only advised when paying the bill bill that they advise to order 1 seafood boil between 2 and add extras the portions were huge and my son isn’t the biggest for his age.
At £39,95 a heads it’s still very reasonable price but we ordered 1 each and wasn’t advised when ordering that 1 between 2 would be enough and most certainly would have been.
So as much as we were really impressed with the food I feel a little disappointed that there advice wasn’t given and we spent a lot of money for 3 people.
No airs or graces. The menu is a good length and generally varied choices.
The starter was a good calamari with a nice dressing.
Main was a baked Peterhead cod with new potatoes. The code was nice slightly lacking in seasoning but well cooked. The potato’s were nicely cooked and good butter coating too.
The dessert was a pavlova that, even for me was a bit too much cream needed a little more fruit through it s’more meringue less cream.
Helpful staff
Clean “mixed bathing” toilets.
Ps if staff are going to have a conversation about validity of someone not there today’s gift card, better not to discuss details including volume of tips on valentines night, out loud.
All in all, we had an amazing time and would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area
