Holy smokes. My husband and I stopped in after moving all day because we needed a hearty meal. We got the stewed chicken and it was to die for. It came with a HUGE serving of rice, fried plantains, and some pickled slaw. The stew sauce with the rice was so good. We came back the next day and got it again but instead of the black mushroom rice, we tried the white coconut rice with black beans. Yummmmm. The passion fruit juice is super fresh and refreshing too. Highly suggest. What a great local place.

So I came all the way from Boston to try this restaurant. And it didn’t disappoint. The food was so good it was like home-cooked food while being away from home. The meat was well seasoned and tender. I enjoyed the food so much that I had to save the rest to prolong my enjoyment. The love, the seasonings, and the pepper were all palpable. Well worth the drive, or stop in if you are ever driving in that direction.

I forgot to add the owner and staff were so kind. I was so eager to eat that we ended up eating in the restaurant, and Sr. Marie brought out more food for us to try, everything tasting better than the next. I had the fried beef with white rice & black beans. I highly recommend people to check out Sr. Marie. Oh, and I can’t forget the soursop drink. That was so refreshing.

I had an amazing experience at the restuarant. A lot of individuals highly recommended the Haitian restuarant. I have to say that the food was exceptional and the customer services was exceptional as well. The owner knowing that we traveled a good distance to experience the restaurant made us feel like we where at home with our mother. The attention and hospitality thst we received made us feel as though we were having dinner at home with our mother. We felt the love and enjoyed the homemade Haitian food. Also the Soursop smoothie was exceptional. The only thing missing was a nice dessert and a nice shot of expresso to top the meal and experience. I would highly recommend the restuarant to anyone that wants to experience good Haitian food and exceptional service, feeling like a valued customer. I will definitely be spending my money at this hidden jewel of a restuarant.

My boyfriend and I decided to try Sr Marie’s per our goal of supporting more black-owned restaurants for Black History Month. We were not disappointed! The food was plentiful and delicious. I tried the mushroom rice which was a delightful surprise, making it a perfect complement to the stewed goat meat that I ordered. We also had meat patties which were so savory and delicious. The portions were generous, providing us with enough leftovers for several meals – incredible value for the price. Shoutout to the hard-working women in the kitchen, their homemade Caribbean cooking was so satisfying and filling. The place was clean and cozy, despite being primarily a takeout joint. I’m deducting one star because I would have loved to see more seating options for dine-in customers or more decor.

Never had Haitian food before and we got the Beef Stew with white rice and the Chicken Stew with beans and rice. Comes with salad and plantains. Amazing! I really enjoyed the beef stew. Smokey flavors like good beef chili. Large portions! Great food to bring home.

Boyfriend got the fried snapper whole fish plate and I got the beef stew and rice. Ridiculously good! Absolutely worth every cent. The ladies behind the counter are very friendly and thankful for new customers. Will be back, probably once a week!

August 2022:
On my way from Newport to Boston. Found this place on Google Maps and wanted to try the food.

Tried a beef pastry and thought it was delicious. Good flakiness with the crust. Meat was nicely spiced.

For the main, tried the chicken stew. The chicken is deep fried and then stewed. The dish comes with white rice and black beans.

Everything was really tasty. I was very pleased with my meal. There’s a lot of food in one order. Enough for me to share! In addition, there was a side salad with Caesar dressing (I think).

Overall, I really enjoyed my lunch. Ladies working there were very friendly and helpful. I’d stop by again if I was in the neighborhood!

The Nostalgia:

The service is reminiscent of that infamous “Seinfeld” scene- No Soup For You!

When you enter this restaurant/convenience shop/house of worship/department store- you’re in for quite the treat. I mean, where else can you purchase a comforter set with your beef patties and receive complementary side eyes.

The experience:

No greetings and it’s in your best interest to know your order as you quietly stand in line pondering the type of zoning permit issued.

The restaurant employees are visibly working extremely hard in preparing authentic homemade dishes. I can appreciate the focus, but fostering an enjoyable customer experience only takes a simple acknowledgment of life- Vis-à-vis “hello, welcome to Sr Marie” or “hello, we will be with you shortly”.

The Savior:

The food was absolutely delicious! The black rice was texturally cooked to perfection; it paired perfectly with the tomato forward sauce that had a welcomed heat. The oxtails were very tender, packed with flavor, and were not outshined by the sauce.

I enjoyed being able to differentiate the flavor profiles. Fried plantain were as expected. Griot was tender and flavored to the bone. Pikliz was lacking that signature immediate heat, but the flavor and crunch was nice.

Packaging was perfect! Having the stew in the separate sealed container is thoughtful as it transported nicely.

Excellent value for the price, taste, and portions.

The opportunity:

The customer service needs significant improvement, and the waiting area needs to be decluttered and organized.

Nonetheless, when you have the flavor to compensate for your sass- people just may give you a pass.

Was disappointed. Went there a few months ago and ordered legume. This place is 45 minutes away by car. The legume was over seasoned to the point it was inedible. No one in my family would eat. I was sad because I was forced to throw it out. It’s like they didn’t taste it before selling to me. The rice was ok though. If I’m out that way again, I hope they will do better.
