We stopped by Hà Nội Old Quarter in Garden Grove since we were in the area and wanted to try some authentic Northern Vietnamese food.
We ordered the Nem Cua Bể (crab spring rolls), which were crispy and flavorful, and the Bún Chả Hà Nội, my favorite dish—grilled pork with vermicelli, fresh herbs, and dipping sauce that was smoky and comforting. We also tried the Bún Đậu Mắm Tôm, which came with rice vermicelli, fried tofu, fried fermented pork roll, spring rolls, and a house-made fermented shrimp sauce. Very traditional and bold in flavor.
Service was okay and seating was a bit tight, especially during busy times.
Overall, it was okay , a good go-to spot if you’re in the area and want to explore Northern Vietnamese dishes beyond pho.

The Nem Chua Rán is good but the Bún Chả is okay. Today we ordered Bún Chả and the Chả (meat loaf) was still raw inside. The owner offered replace or giving us a drink to appologize but we declined and they said will improve that next time

The bun cha Hanoi leaves a lot to be desired. The broth is too sweet and they use bacon instead of chunks of pork belly, this gives the broth a really strange bacon flavor. It doesn’t taste much like the real thing, if you’re looking for authentic Hanoi flavors, look elsewhere.

Found this one that closed at midnight. We it was pretty full even at 10 pm. The interior is pretty simple and bright. They have appetizers, noodle soup, dry food, and non alcohol drinks.
We ordered crab meat spring roll for an appetizer and it was yummy. I like the skin which is the rice paper.
The chicken noodle seems popular but it was just ok for me. Soup is good.
The grilled fish is yummy. I like it a lot. The only problem is that you’re ready to leave with your shirt smell because of the fish . Not much ventilation. The service is quick and the food was ready quickly. It is a good place to visit. They only accept cash, venmo or zelle.

The food taste ok, nothing special, expensive and smaller portion than competitors in the area. Ordered a fish cake noodle soup and got a single tiny cake. Also first time order a Ha noi dry noodle and it came with a side tofu. Started eating and the wife said it’s kind of strange it came with tofu, ask the waiter and he said wrong table, he then took it to another table instead back to the kitchen. Very unhygienic, god knows what we did to that tofu and they just served it to another customer without checking.

I highly recommend it! I came to this restaurant by accident, I was just nearby and decided to go in. Well, what can I tell you, it was a great decision! I ordered Canh bun cha ca (crab noodle soup with fish cake) and it was just magical! I really liked it, it reminds me a little of the taste of Russian Far Eastern Ukha. I will definitely recommend it to my friends!

Have you ever had this unique dill and onion grilled catfish? (Cha ca la vong) I’m at a northern Vietnamese restaurant called Hanoi old quarter in Westminster where you can Build a noodle bowl topped with some peanuts, lemon, and shrimp sauce and it’s unlike anything I’ve ever had before and quickly became my favorite dish.
If you’re not up for something different, they’ve got your classic extra crispy and extra flaky eggrolls so good wrapped in lettuce and dipped in fish sauce. They’ve also got a unique chicken noodle soup that comes with shredded egg, round noodles, and a deliciously comforting soup.

I randomly saw Hanoi Old Quarter on IG and little red note and decided to check it out. It is tucked behind the Mall of Fortune and right next to OC & Lau 2.
The vibe’s chill, and I noticed the menu is loaded with noodle options, since I’m a noodle lover so naturally… my friends and I went on a noodle spree.
Here’s what we tried:
▶️ Bun Thang (Combo Noodles) – $15.95
A Northern Vietnamese classic that’s usually a Lunar New Year special as I learned, but they serve it year-round here. Comes with a pretty tiered “terrace field”-style presentation. Thin yellow noodles, and the broth was rich and flavorful. Super comforting.
▶️ Nem Cua Bể (Fried Crab Spring Rolls) – $11.95
Crispy, crabby, and solid. Not mind-blowing, but definitely enjoyable.
▶️ Banh Canh (Udon) – $15.55
Thick udon-style noodles with shrimp, crab, and a giant slice of fish cake. Broth had a subtle curry kick, which was interesting. Fish cake was a bit dense though.
▶️ Bun Gia Cay (Grilled Pork Leg Soup) – $16.55
A hearty pork leg soup—broth was actually the highlight here! If you toss in thin noodles, it turns into a kind of Vietnamese pork noodle soup. That said, the pork leg wasn’t as tender as I hoped.
Portions were pretty decent, and it was fun trying all the different noodle styles.
Regarding taste-wise, I’d say it was okay overall and nothing too crazy, but the soups are where this place shines in my opinion.
And just a heads up that this restaurant advertised various payment methods available but we were advised to pay either cash or use Zelle/Venmo only which was not very honest.
