This place is a hidden gem! I’ve never ordered a wrong thing here —all of the ingredients are fresh and prepared with care. When you order a chef’s choice selection, they will sometimes include real wasabi (along with the regular paste wasabi that is more common at restaurants). The look of the restaurant, as well as the visual presentation of the dishes, are very pretty and photo-worthy. The A5 Miyazaki Wagyu is phenomenal. The paper hotpot was a unique and imaginative experience —no single bite was ever the same, but constantly evolving. Sometimes we want to just have a simple meal to feed ourself, and other times we are lucky enough to have a delicious meal and take part in a creative process. If you enjoy food and art then give this place a try.

Sacramento has a lot of extremely good food, and Azayaka still manages to be a standout. If you want a real izakaya-style experience, this place should be on your radar.

We came in on an early Friday night, and quickly got sat at a table of 3. The staff was quick, friendly, and helpful; we had drinks and some delicious garlic edamame on the way while we cruised the menu.

And it’s an extensive menu; plenty of nigiri, sashimi, and rolls (which are all very good; we tried them at the Roseville location), delicious grilled yakimono meat and seafood skewers, and comfort classics like ramen and udon.

But we already came with a plan in mind; to try their new A5 Wagyu paper hotpot sukiyaki. There’s a lot of Japanese restaurants around Sacramento, but there aren’t many doing this that I know of.

We had a short wait to snack, chat, and sip on some tasty sake cocktails, and they started the show. We were presented with an amazing spread; beautifully marbled cuts of Wagyu beef, laid over a blend of Japanese mushrooms, steeped in a sweet and savory sukiyaki sauce, all arranged into what looks like a sheet of paper.

But the paper is magic. The delicious broth doesn’t leak through, and more impressively, they light a fire underneath it. A little flame licks the bottom of the paper, without burning or even scorching it throughout the whole meal. It heats the broth inside to the perfect temp for dipping the delicious thin-sliced Wagyu cuts. Dip it in a little runny egg yolk, and you’ve got a savory bite that’ll have you gearing up the chopsticks for round 2.

And you’ve got plenty else to stay busy with when you need a beef break. An assortment of deep-fried veggies, a light and refreshing cucumber salad, noodles, rice, and more. You probably don’t have to worry about leaving hungry after this one.

After stuffing ourselves, they gave us a delicious little dessert that’s also a rare surprise; a slice of strawberry Mille Crêpe cake. It was a perfect finish to a great meal.

Throughout the whole meal, the staff had us in good hands, making sure that both cups and bellies stayed full. This place gets what it means to have the “spirit” of an izakaya; eat, drink, and be merry. The meal is a celebration.

We’ll definitely be coming back to this one again. They have a reasonably priced omakase option I can’t wait to try; if it’s as well-crafted of an experience as my meal was, I’m sure it’ll be able to stand with some of Sacramento’s best.

I went there with a friend a week back! The food was super fast and amazing! Loved the quiet atmosphere during the afternoon. I usually dont like the smell of raw fish, but i had no problem here. We tried Gyoza and 3 of their spicy sushi plates. They were amazing! Will definitely go again.

Asayaka is nondescript on the outside, surprisingly warm and cheery on the inside. This large, striking, contemporary Japanese fusion restaurant is obsessively neat and clean, tastefully decorated, and surprisingly serene, when you first enter. Their menu is large and varied. Delicious food, cooked to perfection, is attractively presented. The servers are friendly, efficient and very knowledgeable.

In a tired strip mall with a few sad embers contrasting newer sparks of life, seek out Azayaka, burning brightly. It will not disappoint you.

We had omakase, which was delightful. The service was great super attentive servers. The sushi chefs very busy and definitely had to ask the name of each dish. Not sure about some of the negative reviewers but it leads me to think they haven’t experienced omakase before. Coming from the Bay Area we have a pretty high standard when it comes to freshness and dinning experience, and Azayaka is a gem in Sacramento. Comparable prices and quality. Would surely return.

The sushi is insanely good and plated well. Surprisingly, even their ramen is bomb. The noodles aren’t soggy and they grill the charsiu topping. Try it yourself!! Got the toro roll!

Chicken katsu was moist on the inside and crunchy on the outside (very delicious). Chicken teriyaki was nicely cooked, and the sauce wasn’t too sweet, but was nicely flavorful. Ramen had slightly soft noodles, but incredible pork. We were impressed. Also, the atmosphere was pleasant and the service was quick and friendly.

This was my first time visiting. I recommend trying the tempura and pepper fins they were great it had a really nice presentation. I also tried the California roll, which tasted okay, though the rice had a weird color that threw me off a bit. Overall, the service was a positive experience

This was our first time dining here, and we had an overall positive experience. We ordered the jungle
Party roll, the Fujisan, the fresh roll, a 12 pc
Sashimi plate, and spicy edamame and miso for appetizers. The rolls are unique and all taste differently. Our favorite of the 3 was the Fujisan. Good lively atmosphere. I do feel like the service could be a little more personable and professional. The service felt slightly scrambly and rushed, but giving them grace because they’re new and they were busy. Would definitely go back though!

Great sushi. Higher than average price but you get a much better quality for it. Gone twice once for omakase and again for a normal dinner. Both were amazing, great for anyone who wants sushi better than California roll plus topping.
