My bf and I went here; he hadn’t been in about 15 years, and it was my first time.

I chose to go with the hickory burger with cheese. I really enjoyed my processed meat patty, a lot. The meat patties are precut (shaped with the define outline of all process patties that come frozen), so if you are thinking that it’s what most people consider “fresh” with it just being grounded and formed by hand, it isn’t.
No big deal, though…because it comes out so smooth-tasting.
Next time, I’ll get it with the hickory sauce and onions.

My bf ordered the grilled chicken po-boy, and he had it dressed to his liking. It was really good, too.

I like how they press the burger buns and po-boy bread down, so it’s not hard to eat.
Everything is contained under the bun well, and you don’t have to open your mouth extra-wide to get the food in.

The potato salad and BBQ beans were good, as well.

The staff is welcoming, but they are not overly-friendly. I was told that it’s just how most of Baton Rouge folks are, though. Good food here.

To be fair I am from the Midwest and it’s hard to impress me with barbecue. Although the staff was very friendly I was not impressed. For the price I would have expected a unique taste. 22.00 6 ribs 2 sides. The potato salad was bland in the ribs only three out of the six had meat. I did enjoy the corn nuggets. I also prefer my ribs to be soaked add barbecue sauce. The ribs are sold without sauce they give you a cup of sauce on the side

Loved this place. My Meme uses a walker & is dependent on it. They immediately came to the door to help us get her in. They were so sweet. There weren’t many people there when we went for 2:30 which made it easy on us. They close at 3pm & were still gracious & not rushing us. 5 stars to the whole staff!! Thank y’all!!

We ordered the pork po-boy with fried mushrooms; grilled chicken with baked beans and macaroni and cheese and a side salad with honey mustard dressing. Everything was so delicious and the portion size was perfect! This was the best BBQ take out I’ve ever had!! Will definitely be ordering from them again and I highly recommend Jay’s BBQ!!

Just ate lunch there.

Had the BBQ beef poboy, a large fries, and a Mt. Dew. I got he large fries because the regular amount of fries they give you is never enough to last while you eat your poboy.

The lady that took my order acted like I was bothering her

When my food came, the fries were undercooked and quickly turned limp.

They gave me the bare minimum of BBQ sauce in the cup to finish my poboy with.

When you order a Mt Dew as a drink, they don’t have it on tap so they give you a bottle and an ice cup. You can’t get a refill without buying another bottle.

When I went to pay, they charged me almost $25 for one poboy, a large fries, and one bottle of Mt Dew.

The poboy comes with a small fry, but they don’t give you a credit for it. They just charged me for the poboy and $6.50 for a large, undercooked, soggy plate of fries.

This is the most unprofessional restaurant in Baton Rouge. Usually they give you your fries well before you ever get your other food. So your fries sit on the table getting cold while you wait for the rest of your meal.

Avoid this location like the plague. The one on Sherwood First is still amazing, run by people who actually care and who won’t rip you off.

This location on Government St just lost a decades long customer forever. They don’t deserve my business. I wish other people from the Baton Rouge area would stop putting up with the sub par experiences you find at so many restaurants here.

Better that places like this go out of business rather than being rewarded for their incompetence and thievery.

All in all, there’s so many better choices than Jay’s on Government. Take your business elsewhere to a place more deserving. This place provides horrible value for what you receive in return for your hard earned money

Started going here for lunch since I got a job in the area. Really fast service and the workers are all super nice and talk to you like family. The food is absolutely delicious too, and it’s only $10 for a burger with a side included. I didn’t even like barbeque before I started eating here. Definitely recommend.

Double cheeseburger, large fry and coke was 22 dollars and the cheeseburger was room temperature to the point that the cheese wasn’t melted at all. The fry’s were great and i could have said something but who wants to complain to someone making your food. And i was a dine in customer.

The experience at Jay’s Bar-B-Q was very pleasant. Our food was pleasing to the eyes, taste to the tongue, and filling to the stomach. It was so pleasant we purchased a plate to eat later. Oh, yes the waitress were well mannered and respectfully. I have been visiting Jay’s for maybe ten years or so and one day I invited my husband to the restaurant and he is hooked also. Mr and Mrs. Hooked on Jay’s Restaurant.

Same food as the newer but in no way new location on Sherwood forest. Friendly staff. Best homemade One of a Kind barbecue sauce ever. The roast pork po boy is not to be missed. Fried okra!
