Well friends, whether or not you ever stay at the hotel (but we do recommend it to friends who come to town for a visit) I encourage you to try the restaurant. We just stopped in for apps before an evening meeting yesterday. Everything was incredible, and the portion sizes generous. Plus, the happy pricing is quite reasonable.
Loved the ambiance and plan to go back. Service was great too…very friendly staff.
First, let me describe my egg sandwich which was listed at $14. It was a basic toasted brioche bun on which they placed a hunk of scrambled yet loose egg (think hotel scrambled egg). I had asked for the sausage version of the sandwich which turned out to be several of those pale hotel breakfast sausage links sliced in half and placed on top of the egg. That was weird at best but it looked ridiculously cheap and they charged an extra $3 for it. On top of that was a slice of American cheese, which had not melted at time of delivery, topped with a bit of aioli. It was not something you could pick up as the whole thing was floppy and the scrambled egg had no real form to it and just wanted to fall. It was pathetic looking, hard to eat and substandard.
The quartered potatoes looked like they would be good but the taste was entirely missing. They were painfully bland, somewhat greasy and dry. This made them quite hard to eat. They were served with ketchup in a little dish on the side which was crusted over as if it had been out for the night.
The black tea was $4 extra and I was given about 8oz of hot water and an English breakfast teabag. So to put it simply, I paid $4 for a teabag… a hotel branded, generic teabag.
Service was fine, although obligatory in nature and not offered with any enthusiasm or personal interest. The atmosphere and ambiance were actually pretty good. At least one could enjoy their crappy, subpar and overpriced food in a pleasant setting.
This was some of the best food I have had in months if not longer! Don’t get me wrong, I have had delicious food at a lot of places but this was a kindof flavor experience that one rarely experiences and I was not expecting it.
We started with the Fritto Misto which I expected to be a selection of battered and fried but this was something I have never had before. They were lightly dusted? With a mild coating that was just incredible. I can’t describe the flavor exactly because we ate it too quickly to note what the ingredients might be.
I had the salmon fish and chips and my friend had the pork belly ramen. My fish was tender, not too heavily breaded but an actual breading different than the Misto. Paired with a house tartar sauce…yum! The fries though! They were wedges but they had the best crisp on the edges especially that were full of flavor and the inside was fluffy. The ranch is also housemade and I alternated between that and the rest of the basil aoli from the misto. The slaw is also housemade and fresh.
The Ramen was perfectly cooked, full of flavor and topped with a whole Sunnyside up egg that finished cooking in the Ramen after it was cut up.
I really don’t know how it took this long to try this place but I guarantee it won’t be long before we return. Chef’s kiss!
Pork belly ramen: SENSATIONAL!
Carrot cake slice was massive and a bit dry in my opinion.
Server made my dining experience exceptional! Thanks
