Stopped by this coffee shop here in Orangeburg and it’s honestly a hidden gem. The vibe is super chill, the baristas are friendly, and the coffee tastes fresh (way better than the chain places). I tried their latte and espresso and it hit the spot. Great place to just sit for a bit and relax — definitely coming back.

We’re from Arizona visiting the Southern towns and cities. We love coffee, everywhere we travel, we look for local coffee shops. Broughton Street Cafe & Ice-cream made the best iced coffee I have had for a long time. My husband’s hot coffee was great as well. The owners were very friendly and the shop was inviting. They displayed art from the local artists. This coffee shop is a gem in their community.

February 25th, 2025….Another visit, luckily early morning and another great chat with Greg over continuously delicious coffee and a scrumptious fresh muffin lovingly presented.
I do hope with the new CITY HALL being built across the street will advance the re-generation of Orangeburg’s historic central business district and that the BROUGHTON STREET CAFE, which has been a focal beating heart of the decayed downtown. will beat even faster to revitalize this community. FINGERS CROSSED!!!

UPDATE as of January, 2025:
I have had the pleasure of eating here several times now and this place just gets better and better!!!!
I love getting off the Interstate highways and visiting these lovely historic towns that have been left behind by the HIGHWAY TRAVELLERS. The northbound drive between the I-95 and I-26 is soooooo much prettier ….and SAFER!!!!!
Orangeburg is the home of USC but the downtown area seems a bit deserted. Fortunately for me, and the people of Orangeburg, this CAFE has opened up to offer locals (and we lucky visitors) some delicious baking and locally-sourced fabulous coffee (and as a frequent visitor to the USA I have not been impressed with much of the coffee I have tasted on previous trips) in a bright, artistic and comfortable setting. This time I had the extreme pleasure of a long conversation with the owner, Greg.
Daily baking delights totally unfitting for any diet) are sold out quickly because this café has a reputation for delectable desserts.
SLICED BEEF with horseradish mayo and a CHICKEN AND PROVOLONE, both on CRISPY FRESH croissants !!!! WOW!!!! Equally delicious is the CHICKEN SALAD on a croissant with a side of LOCALLY homemade sweet wafer dill sliced pickles.
Topped off with the CAKE OF THE DAY: I have had a huge slice of fluffy and light Coconut Italian Wedding Cake with delectably soft (and NOT too sweet surprisingly ) white vanilla frosting. Their KEY LIME CAKE is also delectable.
Terrific local coffee as stated before.
Orangeburg (and the BROUGHTON CAFE) is a great stop before the crazy chariot races on the I-26 to Columbia. (I would suggest adding a half hour to BY-PASS COLUMBIA and continue cross-country on the 601 to RIDGEWAY.)

An absolutely lovely little place away from the hustle and bustle of life. The baked goods taste as if love were baked into them, and the coffee is as pure as it comes! The owners are incredibly down to earth, and really make this little nook feel like a home away from home!

I thought this was gonna be a good place but I was wrong. This place and the food is AWESOME! Greg is the nicest guy and very wise. The croissant sandwich is amazingly perfect, especially the crunch of the outside of the croissant and then the way the bread almost melts in your mouth after that. Wow, not expecting this high level of cuisine.

Do not forget your ice cream or skimp on it, choco-holics will especially like the “Michigan mudhole” I think it was called. Yummmmmm!

Anyone that lives in this town and does not eat here once or twice a week should be asked to leave town.

I’ve lost count of how many coffee shops I’ve been to in South Carolina on the hunt for the very best chai. I have to admit I wasn’t expecting to find a top five favorite in Orangeburg, SC, but my hot chai from Broughton Street was absolutely amazing! Not overly sweet and just the right amount of spice…will definitely be back when I’m traveling on I-26!

Delicious food, cozy atmosphere. I ordered the cinnamon roll and caramel macchiato. The sweetness of everything is at just the right level! Not too sweet but not unsweet.

I hope your business does well! Thank you very much.

Enjoyed our visit at this gorgeous coffee/ice cream shop. We were there for ice cream and was happy with our purchase. Owner was very friendly and passionate about building the community and providing options for the town. We’ll be back the next time we’re in that area on the motorcycle.
