Hotel History – The Waterford Hotel
It is said that the honorable Samuel Hutchins built what is now the Waterford Hotel at 213 High Street, Waterford, PA in the 1840’s as a private home.

Dined here on 6/28/25. Old hotel built in 1840’s. Now a restaurant and bar. The restaurant is clean and the staff are all friendly and accommodating. We split the Saturday special of Cajan Beef sandwich and also ordered a side of fries and bowl of French onion soup.
The soup was real good. The sandwich was tasty even though it had a small strip of plastic in one half, like from a package. The staff removed the sandwich from the bill. The three rating for the food were because of the plastic. The overall four rating was also because of the plastic. The rating would have been all fives. I believe it was an honest mistake. We will go back here to eat when in the area agian.

We highly recommend the beef tips with perogies, their amazing ranch, their perfect fries, and the papa Don burger(over 2 pounds!)! Bring your appetite!

My kids thought it was interesting to eat in a hotel. The food was good – standard bar fair. Nice beer special the day I visited. There was a wait, but there’s free popcorn in the bar to tide you over. We were disappointed in the desserts (an elephant eat and sliver of 2” wide cheesecake), so I definitely wouldn’t recommend the sweets, but would come for dinner or lunch again.

What a magical place to stay! A real castle on an island, right in the middle of Waterford. Rooms were huge with period furniture but with all the modern conveniences as well as clean and comfortable beds. The staff was a little rude but not a big deal. Highly recommend a stay here!

It’s a quaint place to go eat. You have to check out the daily specials that they have. You will be amazed at their selection. They will definitely have something on the menu you will want. The staff are very friendly and service was excellent. You have to try them.

The staff was very friendly. The atmosphere was nice. The food was good prices are reasonable. Bathrooms are clean. No complaints here. I love that they other free popcorn in the bar area. The popcorn was awesome.

The bar and restaurant are situated in the lower level of an old hotel. Upstairs are several bedrooms and a bathroom. The railing on the staircase leading upstairs and overlooking the staircase seems dangerous as it is maybe 2.5 to 3 feet high. The lunch menu has various sandwiches and a few entrees. The portions are large. The slices of bread are huge. The mashed potatoes are made from real potatoes opposed to instant potato flakes.

I have gotten use to having a dipping sauce for my onion rings. None came with my side of onion rings. Nivea, probably didn’t spell that right. Talked to kitchen staff, and they agreed upon a combination of thousand island dressing and horseradish . She brought me both and a cup to mix it in. Well I dumped the dressing in and started adding the horseradish. Before long, I had the perfect combination. Of course the meals would have been delicious even without. That was just a bonus. My husband and I had a good chuckle that my side of onion rings was more than an appetizer of onion rings we had ordered elsewhere. Point being, food was great and portions were generous. We got our money’s worth. Great, friendly and helpful service. If you’ve never been, it’s worth checking out.
