Today, I entered the store and was not greeted, acknowledged, or offered assistance, despite staff members engaging warmly with other (white) patrons. I watched as other customers were asked if they needed help, given suggestions, and even had items carried for them. In contrast, I walked around the store multiple times without a single employee approaching me. It wasn’t until I went to check out that anyone spoke to me. Even when I asked for suggestions, the response felt reluctant and far from the level of service others received.
This is not an isolated incident. I have visited The Kitchen several times and have consistently experienced the same dismissive treatment. As a loyal local customer who spends my hard-earned money here—and in a store where items are not inexpensive—I expect the same level of respect, service, and acknowledgment given to every other customer.
I believe in supporting local businesses, but I will not return until this establishment takes meaningful steps to ensure that *all* customers feel seen, valued, and equally served. No one should have to question whether they are receiving inferior service because of their race.
