Went for lunch during the week (they are not open weekends). It’s an old school place with lots of different options to choose from. Staff was really nice and it’s in a good location if you’re in downtown LR. I tried the meatloaf and the smoked sausage with a hot sauce, sides of cornbread, mustard greens, and potatoes. The red sauce on the meatloaf was too sweet for me, overpowered everything else. The sausage was the best item I had, except the hot sauce was actually really mild. The jalapeño cornbread was OK, just kinda meh. I’ll definitely go back and try something other than the meatloaf.

We had the lunch special
Chicken fried steak ( it has a kinda spicy breading) which is great the jalapeno cornbread and Black eyed peas went well together also home style taters were top notch.
I recommend giving this place a must for a home style lunch..

If you are looking for absolutely amazing food and even better people, you’ve found it! Four people dining experience with all different items and every one of them were something to write home about. I wish I had taken photos but it was gone within minutes of arriving at the table. 100/10!

Ok, so I had lunch from here twice to get a somewhat balanced review. On the first visit I had the smoked chicken leg quarter with green beans, mac-n-cheese and corn bread. Everything was excellent except the corn bread which was just bland, like not much actual corn flavor. Then today I had the half slab rib plate with green beans, baked potato salad and a roll (yep, skipped the corn bread). The green beans and roll were good but the tater salad was just ok. I’m not a massive fan of the dish but I’ve had better at other places. Which leaves the ribs and they’re kind of a mixed bag. There wasn’t much of a rub on them so you really need the sauce. I chose the mild sauce and honestly it’s not bad. Could’ve used a bit more actually. They were cooked well but were also a bit on the tough side. Definitely not fall off the bone style. I don’t think I would order them again but perhaps I’ll try the brisket next time. The server both times was friendly and helpful. Most definitely a cool little lunch spot.

Great spot for lunch!! It’s the only place I cared to order the meatloaf from on more than one occasion. Everything I’ve ever had from this restaurant is absolutely amazing!!

The jalapeno cornbread is a staple for me. I go there, they have other types of bread to choose from with your lunch. However, for me it’s just a really cool item that is on the menu. It’s not super spicy but it’s a little different.

The next time I go here I’m going to have to try their barbecue, it’s supposed to be amazing. It is a cafeteria type style ordering system, you walk through. Just tell him what you want and they serve it up. They offer to go orders which is extremely convenient if you’re running low on time. I do know that they cater also which is a huge plus if you have lots of hungry people. Better catch him before 2:00 p.m. cause they do close by then.

With a warm greeting at the door the Owner and a sweet lady ask what I would like to have? She went over all the menu in detail along with her favorite. After initially wanting the food to go the environment was so friendly I decided to eat in. The food was delicious and Southern cooking at its finest. Side note…I dropped my wallet while dining and Mrs.Candy Wilkerson(the owner) contacted me and waited for me to come back after they were closed…….this dining experience downtown was a true blessing….please stop by there and enjoy.

“Fabulous”” Neighborhood BBQ, was the best find since we left Kansas in October. Plate 1-pulled pork, baked beans, baked potato salad ..Plate 2-meatloaf, coleslaw and beans. Both included jalapenos cornbread.
ANYTHING you order will be THE BEST EVER. MUST VISIT WHEN IN LITTLE ROCK. Owners are so friendly. Hours 11-2.

Y’all… This is the best southern food I’ve ever had. I was SHOCKED at how good it was. The pot roast and the the squash casserole were transcendent. The meatloaf, the mashed potatoes and the sweet potatoes, were all sublime. The greens were above average, the tea was great. The only thing even close to mid was the cornbread. But like, cornbread is like that 95% of the time for me. But seriously I’ve eaten at a quite a few diners and meat and two sides type places in my day, and quite a few Haute Cuisine Modern Southern places too, and this was mind blowing. I’m honestly still in shock.

First time visit. The place had an old town charming interior/exterior. The staff were friendly. My pulled pork was very bland, sausage and baked beans were okay. Cornbread stuffing and the cornbread was very bland. No brisket is served.
M-F. Downtown Lunch Crowd. Closes at 2pm lunch only.
Smokehouse bbq with no brisket is an anomaly to say the least.
