We visited Herbstreet on a Saturday, and overall it was a pleasant experience. The food was genuinely good, both brunch dishes we ordered were high quality and well prepared. Prices are a little on the expensive side, but the flavours and presentation do reflect the effort behind each plate.
On weekends they only serve brunch, and something that stood out is that there wasn’t a dedicated tea or coffee menu to choose from, which felt a bit limiting.
The place itself is lovely. It has a bright, pretty atmosphere, and the view over the canal adds a really nice touch to the experience.
Service was friendly and attentive. The only downside is that they gently remind you that the table is limited to an hour and a half. They do it politely, but it does create a bit of pressure if you’re hoping to enjoy a long, relaxed brunch. If you want to linger and chat for a while, this might not be the ideal spot.
Overall, a good brunch option with tasty food and great views, just better suited for a shorter visit than a long weekend catch‑up.

Very nice and bright atmosphere and delicious food.
I got the herbstreet combo with smoked salmon and it was really tasty.
The location is amazing and the place faces on the canal.
They don’t have a coffee menu that can be a limit but overall the experience has been great.

Delicious breakfast and excellent customer service. Three visits over 2.5 weeks. Their smoked salmon is beautiful. Have the ‘Breakfast of Champions’ and you will not be disappointed. Ps. Book at the weekends

Fabulous food and drink menu, although it’s worthy to note that the restaurant does get very very noisy which can make it difficult to hear. If this is an issue for you maybe picking a table in the front section or outside would be beneficial. Overall, excellent service with staff who go above and beyond to create a fantastic visit for every and all customers.

Great experience here for dinner. We arrived early and they made a plan to accommodate us at a table earlier even with a relatively busy reservation schedule. Food was good, but not spectacular. A nice touch was upgrading my fries to Parmesan truffle oil fries on my burger at no extra cost. Best part of the meal was dessert. It was a busy night, but after a waiter took our order, we were never checked on again and had to flag staff down for anything further which was less than ideal. Seating can be crowded as well with tables pretty close together.

Great service, great food. I have been living in Ireland for over 15 years and find this the best brunch / lunch restaurant consistently. Staff is friendly, service is quick, seats inside are very comfortable with the big windows that can open on warmer days and outside is also comfy on colder (not windy :p) days with blankets and heaters.

I know regulars who rate the place highly with good reason from their perspective and I can’t. It’s noisy and difficult to chat when busy, has a very limited idea of vegetarian or pescatarian, and frankly, when one receives a “veggie” burger with fries and no side-salad, someone in the kitchen is taking the Michael. I need more than a plate of yellow carbs for €18. There are much better lunches available in the area for less. Sadly, I can’t really rate the service higher. There’s nothing wrong so much; it’s efficient, and there’s just no personality. And that, to me, sums up my visits. Clinical. No personality across the board. It may suit you though, so don’t discount making your own visit. I may just have hit some “off” days or enjoy something else more.

Lovely visit to Herbstreet for brunch this morning. Glad we had booked as it was very busy. This however didn’t compromise on the friendly welcome that we were greeted with and the attentive service throughout.
We’d booked an indoor table but asked if we could sit outside as it was such a beautiful day and the outdoor seating area at the front had a lovely view over the docks and was basking in sunshine. This was accommodated and early explained when the table was to be returned.
Great menu with a range of breakfast/lunch options. Food was delicious and portions very generous. Hadn’t visited this area of Dublin before but lots of interesting sightseeing opportunities close by for afterwards. Hope to visit again.
