Tru Jamaica is a family-owned restaurant that serves authentic Jamaican Cuisine. We are serving good hospitality along with very distinctive food. Tru Jamaica offers authentic Jamaican cuisine with extensive gluten-free options. With the exception of our baked goods, our menu is naturally gluten-free. Our dishes include Jerk Chicken, Curry Goat, Coconut Rice & Peas, fresh Sorrel n Ginger Drink, and many other authentic Jamaican dishes. We are a dine-in as well as a carry-out. We are located in East Waco and are trying to help our surrounding community. We hope that through our restaurant, we can be a part of the rebuilding of a community that has been forgotten.
Colorful, easygoing Jamaican eatery serving jerk chicken, curry goat & patties, plus rice & peas.

We stopped by here, half thinking that there was some kind of scheme as to why they get so many good reviews and I really just was looking to try it to see what the scheme was, however, after the amazing customer service and licking the plate clean because the food was so good; I’ve determined that the reason why they have such high reviews is because they are just that delicious and that genuine with wanting to please. I highly recommend because of their service and because of the quality of food and their obvious dedication to the customer experiences. I look forward to going back next time I come through Waco. I hope that the sour sop seeds work out for them.

This was our first time to eat Jamaican food and it did not disappoint!
My husband and I were in town on business and stopped in this place. I’m so glad we did!
We both got the jerk chicken. It was delicious! My husband said he could eat a bucket full of the plantains! Ha!
The fresh coconut water is a must!
The staff was amazing and the owner spoke to us at length about his origins and other topics throughout our meal.
We learned that the owner’s mother is the head chef! What a marvelous story! We really enjoy anytime we go to a restaurant and get to meet and speak with the owner personally. This time was better than anytime before when this has happened for us!
When we returned to our hotel, the desk clerk asked, “what smells so good”? It was my leftovers! I was overjoyed that I was able to advertise for this place right away!

I am in Waco for work and wanted to try something new, so when I saw a Jamaican place I was super excited since I’ve never eaten it before. I’m really happy I stopped in here, the food is great and the people working here are very nice! I got the oxtail entrée that comes w plantains, veggie, and the coconut rice and beans, and I got my meal extra spicy. The oxtail is fall off the bone and everything has so many great spices, the flavor is great! The guy at the front was also really nice, since after I paid he found out that they were still making the rum cake, so I got the rum pudding instead and he threw in a slice of the carrot cake, both of which are awesome as well!

Tru Jamaica Restaurant is hands down one of my favorite places to eat in Waco. The owner is very present at the restaurant and goes above and beyond to ensure an amazing experience. The food is reasonably priced especially given the fact that good authentic Jamaican food is hard to come by. I got the jerk chicken plate and the flavor was beyond delightful. I got the carrot cake for desert “to go” and that to go box didn’t make it out of the restaurant once I took a bite. I highly recommend bringing all your family and friends to eat here! You cannot beat the food, flavor, and genuine hospitality that’s provided at Tru Jamaica Restaurant.

Food was absolutely delicious!! Hands down one of the best restaurants in Waco in terms of food and service.
We got the curry chicken and curry goat and both were amazing. As amazing as the food was, the service was just as wonderful. I have a food allergy and the owner took the time to speak to us and make sure everything was exactly as needed to ensure a safe and enjoyable dining experience. We felt very welcomed and we appreciated the personal care and hospitality. Highly recommend! 10/10!

This is seriously the best Jamaican food I have ever had. Worth the drive from DFW to here. The service is friendly and personable. The manager is so kind and thoughtful and the food is out of this world.
We had the jerk chicken and the redfish. Everything on the plate was delicious! Not even one thing to critique!
Also the building is surprisingly beautifully decorated. A great place for any occasion, an affordable date, or just to grab a bite. I would 100% recommend to anyone!

Friendly faces, great service and amazing food. We found this place back in 2020 during our Waco visit (from Houston) and have been back here every time when we pass Waco (there’s a long “break” due to a fire and then the food truck during the renovation). Very excited to see the re-opened/renovated restaurant (since early November). The chicken and beef patties are tasty, oxtail is my favorite, loves the jerk chicken and the curry goat is amazing. Strongly recommend this place to anyone who craves for Caribbean cuisine ^^

TruJamaica is one of my favorite restaurants in Waco and whenever friends or family come to visit, it’s where I bring them. The food is always amazing and they have so many allergy-friendly and vegetarian options so I don’t have to worry about making sure everyone will be able to eat here. I love the goat and oxtails but everything on the menu is amazing so I like to switch it up. I just always make sure to get a fresh juice and plantains no matter what!

I had the pleasure of dining at Tru Jamaica, and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. I ordered the oxtails, and they were absolutely incredible — tender, fall-off-the-bone, and packed with rich, authentic Jamaican flavor. The gravy was perfectly seasoned and paired so well with the side dishes.
You can tell the food is cooked with care and tradition. Every bite tasted homemade and full of bold island spices. The portions were generous, and the overall experience left me completely satisfied.
If you’re craving real Jamaican comfort food consider, Tru Jamaica. I promise you won’t be disappointed. I will definitely be returning soon.

This place not only has amazing food, but amazing service! The owner was really welcoming and attentive. If you dine-in you get free refills of the rice. He also lets you sample the food. I highly recommend. Also, the fresh pineapple and ginger drink is AMAZING.
