Burts was the 1st restaurant I ever went to in Detroit, and the vibe on a hot summers day was exceptional, food really homely and enjoyable too.
Since my 1st experience it’s only really lived up to the same levels a few times but I have a soft spot for this place.
Personally not a fan on the plastic cutlery when eating in service can be hit or miss.
And I once I ordered my food and my friend got his only for me to he told they had run out of jerk chicken.
Food is always solid but sometimes the service lets other factors down.
Maybe time for a toilet refurb as well, but I can honestly say on a cool spring or summers evening this place can truly come alive and the entertainment along with atmosphere can be really excellent.

I ordered the catfish sandwich basket. It came with two PCs catfish fillets, two slices of white bread , Onion slices on a bed of lettuce and french fries . The fish was fresh and crunchy, paired with the lettuce ,onions slices and hot sauce I was in hog heaven. The decor and atmosphere made the places come alive but I could tell it was a big night spot.

A lot of Motown HISTORY there. You can catch Backline Artist for many of the Motown Legends still performing. Whenever visiting Detroit, it is mandatory to stop by and visit “family”. I miss you Eleanor

Fun place to go. Easy parking. Small market with vendors near it. Sometimes live music or a dj. We in. The place is dated, and they put your food into to-go containers even if you’re dining in. The presentation was not good but the food is yummy for sure. We were the first and only table for lunch service, and they were already out of stuff. No salad dishes were available from the menu. They were out of several items. Service was attentive, but she didn’t seem happy to be there.

Today I decided to go down to the Eastern market place. I, Was planning on going to the Firehouse fundraiser. But, when I got there and inquired about the chilli cook-off contest and dish. There was no Vegan option so I went across the street too Bert’s place. When I walked in, there was no welcome or greeter! So, I sat at a table with a menu on it. Looking over the me

Let me tell you, Bert’s Marketplace is the place to host any event! Whether it’s a birthday party, wedding reception, or something special like a University of Michigan Panel discussion, this venue has it all. A big shoutout to Mr. Miller London for being absolutely amazing—his hospitality and attention to detail made everything run smoothly. The staff was friendly, helpful, and really made us feel at home.
And don’t even get me started on the food—when I say it was Bussin’, I mean it was next-level delicious! If you’re looking for a fantastic spot to host an event, right in the heart of Detroit, Bert’s Marketplace should be at the top of your list. What a gem! ✨

My family and I visited Bert’s after the Eastern Market after dark event this past Thursday, and had one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. The service was terrible we had to flag down a friend just to get a waiter. The wait was unreasonably long, and when the food finally arrived, it was wrong. I specifically ordered catfish and was served whiting instead. The chicken wings were disappointing, and overall, the meal was not worth the time or money. I was literally sick after eating that bland non seasoned food.
Management clearly needs to hire more staff and reconsider the kitchen team. If I could give zero stars, I would. Never again, I’ll take my dollars elsewhere.
