The location by the water created the perfect setting — relaxing and scenic, with beautiful views that made the meal feel extra special. I’ll definitely be coming back!
We both thought the crabs were very tasty and were cooked just right. Unfortunately, crabs are quite expensive these days so just know that you are not going to get a LOT of crab meat out of a medium crab, even at $5 a crab.
The fish and chips were cooked well also (not overly battered) and I thought the portion was generous as were “chips” (French fries). Would have liked a larger serving of the Cole slaw.
The atmosphere was pleasant. The dining area is quite large and the tables are nicely spaced so you are not right on top of your neighbor. Also nice views of water from most of the tables and good air circulation.
Seating and food preparation was prompt and servers were friendly.
So far, so good until I looked around. The restaurant is a vast neutral space with rows of picnic tables and gave me the impression of a warehouse for food. My husband said he’d thought of a college cafeteria. So diners must flock here for the food, it’s certainly not for the charm.
Sadly, our meal did not live up to our “4.5 on Google” expectations from the start. The Top Deck Margarita ($15) came without the advertised Grand Marnier floater. There was no color difference in my drink, and a sip confirmed its absence.
My Crabcake Salad ($26) was topped with a modest sized crab cake sitting on Romaine lettuce, with a few cucumber slices and tomato pieces. Adding carrots, radishes, corn, avocado, and making a more robust salad would make that price more palatable. Delivered as it was, it was <$3 in veggies. I had a side order of fries, and it was also a meager serving. At $4 it almost makes one wonder what it costs per fry -- and I resisted the urge to count them, but it appeared to be about 15 french fries.
My husband’s Chicken Chesapeake ($33) was also lackluster. He said the chicken was overcooked and tough, and the crab imperial had an overpowering flavor of old oil. His dish was accompanied by delicious potatoes and a tangy cole slaw, and those were the stars of the meal.
To recap, the veggies were the standouts of a mediocre meal with a water view. We might be more demanding than their target dinner audience but expect good value, which includes tasty food at an elevated price point. If you’re looking for a place with great views of the Bay to eat good seafood and other signature Maryland specialties, move along, this isn’t it.
