Texas-based chain restaurant serving Mexican food & margaritas in a hacienda-style setting.

When you first arrive it’s a really nice and neat location the interior is beautiful!! That’s about it that’s literally the most I can say. If you come with 6 or 7 people go elsewhere because they don’t have the space. We just left and it was our first time but we won’t go back. The food was NASTY, I mean for the price you pay that’s just horrid. I was honestly expecting something amazing the steak was barely chewable the chicken was decent but bland but everything was incredibly salty. No one checks the food?? The kids food hit the table and their fries were all cold my sons nachos weren’t even nachos. The food is a joke! My waitress was inattentive but she wasn’t bad she probably hates her job but serving food like that I don’t blame her. The bar drinks were SPOT ON and fabulous. This was not authentic Mexican. I’d definitely recommend la patrona or Jose tequila but never this.

Craving some Tex-Mex food. I went there on a Monday evening. Parking lot was pretty empty given its size. The place has a very large seating area broken up into three or four sections. Plenty of booths and I asked for one even though I was by myself.
The menu has an impressive variety of choices including vegetarian and gluten-free options. I ordered a margarita which they serve in a shaker that they leave at your table. I couldn’t have even half of it as I could feel the effects pretty quickly. Since I was driving I decided not to finish the drink.
I ordered a steak from the gluten-free menu and the sides from the fajitas menu which includes tortillas, guacamole, salad, cheese, and sour cream. I could have ordered the beef from the fajitas menu but I don’t like my beef cut up for me and prefer to cut it myself. This way it stays nice and juicy. I ordered the steak rare.
The food arrived soon enough but before that I was served nachos with a couple of dips. See pictures. I wasn’t impressed by the green dip but the tomato dip was tangy and tasty. My steak was perfectly cooked. I cut it up into thin strips and made little tacos or burritos – not sure what you call them exactly. I wasn’t particularly impressed with the tortillas. They were soft and pliable and I could easily make my wraps with them but they seemed store-bought. They weren’t bad – it’s just that I’ve had much better tortillas in other similar establishments.
It’s a nice, relaxed atmosphere. I was served by three people in all. The usher, the waitress who took my order and refilled my cup, and the lady who delivered the food. All three of them were very friendly and made me feel welcome .
High ceiling that’s painted sky blue makes you feel like you’re in a lively, sunny place. There is a large mural painted on one of the walls, and a few South American style paintings hanging here and there.
This place should be great for large gatherings. They have the room for it. I’m surprised there weren’t a lot more people.

The restaurant was very clean and our host was very kind and welcoming. We ordered the Enchiladas and they were not good. Our plates were very hot as if they were microwaved. The Enchiladas were of store bought frozen quality. The refried beans were very dry (happens in my experience when you microwave them). The food I saw other people had looked very appealing so I was surprised with my food quality. I don’t like that I paid $25 for what felt like was microwaved. I would like to give a second chance based of what I saw others had, but will probably not be coming back. Again, Our host was great so thank you for that.

1st time here… Service was impeccable! My waitress was fast, attentive, and made great recommendations! I had a lemonade, chips & salsa, and a Mexican Stack. I saw this place on the way to my hotel and came here for an early lunch. It did not disappoint. When I learned of the 2 choices of salsa, I was sure I would choose the Traditional over the Cilantro Pineapple, but it was hard to choose. The Cilantro Pineapple was surprisingly very good! The Mexican Stack was kind of like Mexican pizza, but it was stacked with toppings, so a fork was necessary. Everything was filling and delicious and topped off with excellent service!!!

This place is amazing!! My coworker & I are here for training for a week and we went twice in one day! By the far the friendliest place we’ve been to yet(a lot of places here don’t feel friendly) everything from the hostess’s(day + night shift) plus the servers (even the one training) were awesome! We even got to meet the guy running the show who was so friendly. The food is so so soooooo good!!! Big portions, yummy chips and salsa and awesome drinks!! If we ever come back to Chesapeake we will most definitely make our way back to Abuelo’s!!

1st time Good food not really a fan of places that fill you up before your food comes. Waitress Karma was alright. Certain request had to be repeated, bought food to everyone without forks or napkins. We requested limes, waited a while so we took them out of our margaritas to squeeze over our food.

The ambiance and service was good but the food was nothing to write home about. The salsa was a little too runny for my liking and the chicken for my fajitas was not seasoned that well. Gave 3 stars because the food wasn’t nasty by any means just needed a little seasoning and we would be good to go.

The restaurant is easily accessible and was clean. We were seated quickly and service was top notch. The waitress was friendly, professional, and efficient.
Unfortunately, the food was not great. The chicken in the enchilada was extremely dry and lacked any seasoning. The mashed potatoes were ok but nothing great.
The restaurant was clean and service was wonderful, but the food was lacking.

For such a big Mexican restaurant and with beautiful décor, this place really misses the spot. The service is rude, the prices are way to pricey, and the quality of the food is tasteless and seemingly microwaved and/or reheated.
I usually leave long reviews raving about how great a restaurant is or what it isn’t, this one misses the mark so badly that I do not even want to waste my time. Best thing about this is location and the décor both indoors and outdoors.
I suggest skipping this one and heading to the nearest Azteca or even Taco Bell.

Never coming here again honestly! The inside is beautiful and our waiter was ok, but the food was terrible. This place is just a fancy over priced Taco Bell. All of the food was very bland and had no seasoning we had to add on salt and pepper. The onions and peppers were in chunks and not even fully cooked. The salsa, beans, and cheese all looked and tasted like they came out of a can or box. It was not authentic at all and we were the only Hispanics there. Then we asked for the vegetarian cheese dip and our white waitress said “do you mean kaysow?” And I was baffled. It was like this place was appropriating my culture and humiliating us in the process.
