Social Profile:

All the way back in 1955, the four sons of an immigrant millworker decided to take a chance. They opened a restaurant on Cumberland’s bustling Mendon Road with nothing to their names other than a shared dream and vision – fresh and local ingredients, prompt and friendly service, all to be had at an unbeatable value. While times change, our values don’t. As a third generation, family owned and operated company, our food is still made fresh in our commissary 7 days a week and delivered to each of our locations daily . Same ingredients, same recipes, same classic food that Rhode Islanders have come to know and love since our grandfathers first opened our doors nearly 70 years ago!

Laid-back, family-owned Rhode Island outlet serving salads, burgers & other homestyle food.

Chelo’s never misses when you’re craving some good ol’ American comfort food. We ordered a mix of everything and they brought the heat — literally and flavor-wise

✅ The appetizer platter came loaded: crispy mozzarella sticks, golden onion rings, chicken tenders, pizza strips, and all the sauces your soul needs. Great to share… or not

✅ The steak & cheese with mushrooms was loaded and juicy, and the sweet potato fries on the side hit the spot.

✅ The bacon cheeseburger was stacked, fresh, and flavorful. Fries were thick, crispy, and just right.

Service was fast, the food came out hot, and for the price, portions were solid. Whether you’re posted up for lunch or doing a group vibe, Chelo’s delivers.

Chelo’s Hometown Bar & Grille – Warwick is a great spot overall, and my recent experience there was mostly positive. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the food was solid — fresh, well-prepared, and enjoyable. However, what truly stood out to me was not just the meal itself, but the exceptional service provided by our waiter, Zach.

Although our party was quite large, Zach handled everything with an impressive level of professionalism, patience, and efficiency. Despite receiving little to no assistance from management or other staff members, he managed to keep everything organized and running smoothly the entire evening. He went above and beyond to ensure that every single person in our group was taken care of, checking on us frequently, keeping drinks filled, and making sure our orders were accurate and timely. His positive attitude never wavered, and he maintained an upbeat, welcoming energy throughout the meal — something that’s rare to find when managing a large party alone.

In my opinion, Zach is a standout employee who truly represents what great service should look like. His dedication, attention to detail, and ability to make guests feel valued are the kind of qualities that keep people coming back. Employees like him make a real difference in a dining experience, and I genuinely believe he deserves recognition — or even a raise — for his outstanding work ethic and customer service.

While the only downside of the evening was the initial wait to be seated (especially considering there were open tables), the quality of service we received more than made up for it. Once seated, everything flowed smoothly thanks to Zach’s efforts.

Overall, I highly recommend Chelo’s Hometown Bar & Grille – Warwick, and I strongly suggest asking for Zach if you want top-tier service. The food is good, the atmosphere is comfortable, and if you’re lucky enough to have Zach as your server, you’re guaranteed a five-star experience.

Unfriendly hostess but good server (he confused my appetizer but quickly fixed it and was super friendly). Food is outstanding and there’s a great reason why the Clam Chowder is award winning – it’s the second best I’ve ever had. Large portions for my salmon with broccoli and mashed potatoes.

Chelo’s makes some fine white (New England Style) clam chowder. There’s actual chunks of clam in it! I found the stuffies to be decent, but a tad bit too much breading methinks. The clam cakes seemed to be lacking in clam…. Service was pretty good and the restaurant was clean and nice.

A local favorite for a casual relaxing dinner at a fair price. Food is good, although sometimes a bit busy at times. Bar tenders are super friendly and work hard. Lots of TVs for sports and fun to play the Keno. No live music here but big bar. Check out Chelos on the water review for waterfront music and fun. This is a local family business and they run it very well. Best all you can chicken meal on Sunday nights! Also great pies.

First time— won’t be the last time!
So often I hear that a restaurant or a Pub would prefer to hire naturally friendly staff because you can’t always train staff to be personable and friendly.
What I do know in regards to my first time at Chelo’s on Post Road in Wawick— Sarah promptly greeted me at the bar and won me over with her attentive, patient style as I “fired away” so many questions, comments and my mini life vignettes.
By the way, if you don’t get the chance to be served by Sarah– the half baked chicken was delicious and my free carrot cake was scrumptious.
As of late, I have been telling people about the “gems” I have discovered in Wawick, RI and I consider Chelo’s a genuine gem.

Yes, it was our pleasure to return to Chelo’s: this time at a table, but do love the bar.
Jason, was the topnotch server this time and we were impressed.
The place was crowded and we had to wait for a table, but it was worth the wait.

Solo can be the way to go at Chelos.
Sitting at the bar, watching a basketball game and playing Keno can be a good thing.
I settled for the delicious chilli and a coke after mustering up all my self discipline when I observed a women to my right devouring a delightful humongous dessert.
Maybe, that dessert was her meal— I wondered.
The female bartenders were friendly and attentive as usual; what was unusual was walking out of the place with “winnings” in my pocket.

This is my first visit and definitely won’t be my last. Just walking everyone was friendly and we were seated right away. Jalen our waitress was fantastic. She was personable and bubbly. It just made the whole experience better. 2 of us got burgers…omg to die for. The grilled chicken salad was enough for two people but absolutely delicious. My husband got the philly cheese steak and he could not get enough it was so good. For dessert the carrot and cheese cake topped off our night and it could not have been better. We came all the way from Philadelphia and if this is what Rhode Island has to offer we can’t wait to see what else is on the menu.

Chelo’s – Local Charm, But Not Worth the Trip
Chelo’s might be a hometown favorite for some, but my experience left a lot to be desired. I gave it a shot and tried the Cobb salad, which wasn’t bad. Fresh enough and decent in portion. The chicken finger basket was solid too—crispy and well-seasoned—but the fries came out cold, which immediately took away from the meal.

What stood out was the server’s rapport with regulars. He remembered orders without writing anything down, which is impressive and says a lot about the relationships built here. Unfortunately, that level of attention didn’t extend to my table. My sauce request was missed, and again—the cold fries didn’t help.

The biggest turn-off was the smell. The whole place had a musty, mildew-like odor—like an old bar where the walls have trapped years of moisture and stale air. It makes sitting and eating inside uncomfortable and gives the impression the space isn’t well cared for.

While I can respect the loyalty of regulars and appreciate small-town service, my visit didn’t live up to the hype. With cold food, a missed order, and an unpleasant atmosphere, I honestly wouldn’t recommend the visit. Save your gas and go somewhere else.

Went to Chelo’s and had a good experience. Both the food and service was good. I had to order an extra entree as my wife was meeting us there and they easily accommodated it. The atmosphere at the location I went to was on the older side. The prices are at the high-end of reasonable. This is a local chain but they do a great job keeping that hometown feel.
