In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Went to Black Bear Diner and had a fantastic experience! The atmosphere was warm and inviting with two dining areas—we were seated in the open section, which was perfect for catching up with my childhood best friend. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the wait time was minimal.
The menu has a huge variety with something for everyone. I ordered the Chicken Caesar Sandwich with sweet potato fries and it was absolutely delicious. The portions were generous, and everything tasted fresh and flavorful.

She went above and beyond—she got our order perfect, kept our cups refilled without us having to ask, and even took the time to help my daughters identify items on the menu. I ordered the chicken stripe with fries. Chicken good, fries not good. Chicken pot pie had good flavor, but the broccoli soup was way too thick – in my opinion. I just wasn’t a fan of the food. I liked that the menu is on a newspaper. The atmosphere just seemed dated and tired. The service was great. Friendly and attentive to detail. Just thought this place was okay.

We went here for a breakfast themed meal and it was great. We love the sweet pancakes and thick bacon. Not that think crap at other breakfast places. My girls had a large selection of kids’ choice menu items. They have so many deals that it makes it a great place to go to. Michelle, our server was really nice and came several times to make sure we had all that we needed, including several water, butter, syrup, and take-home box trips.. ask for Michelle to serve you, and you’ll get the mvp experience.

We had a wonderful experience with our server, Michelle. She was incredibly patient with the kids and even brought them some fruit to enjoy while they waited for their food. With six children at our table, things were understandably lively—especially since they had stayed up late the night before and were a bit more emotional and energetic than usual.
Our waitress thoughtfully asked us first before offering the kids candy canes, which was a sweet way to help calm and cheer them up. The food was delicious, and Michelle quickly noticed that my order was slightly incorrect. She promptly brought a new dish before I even had a chance to mention it.

Best breakfast restaurant I’ve been to in a while.
Michelle was my server and she was the best! We just talked and she was very kind to us. I am a teenager and she made us laugh a lot, also letting my family reminisce on the old times with newspapers and landlines. She made jokes with me and told us a few funny stories about her son. She was very relatable and boosted the experience.
The food was also out of this world, I got the chicken fried steak and it was cooked perfectly with a nice crisp. The orange juice is hand squeezed, I would have gallons of it if I could. The rest of the food was delightful and filled with flavor.
The atmosphere felt like we were at home and the place had such a nice feeling in the air. The other guests seemed very happy with everything too and the experience was great overall.

Me and my wife went here Friday for all you can eat fish which was amazing btw. My only complaint was on the ad it showed hush puppies which are my favorite. So I asked the waitress hey can I get extra hush puppies they said oh we don’t have those. She did sub it for a corn bread muffin which was so good. But what ever you show on the ad you should have

We have been coming here for years, but this visit was exceptional! We got there shortly after the restaurant opened and there were multiple large groups already there. We thought we would have to wait a while for a table and food but they were very quick. Our waitress Michelle was very kind and attentive even with it being so busy. We love all the food here, especially the big breakfasts! Plan on sharing or taking it to go. The prices are average but the portions are huge! We love this place and will be back!
