Welcome to the Backyard! Here you will find the BEST shrimp and grits (voted #1 in South Carolina and #3 in the world) and Greek the warm embrace of soul- food and good company. Gullah culture and cooking are the roots from which Hilton Head grew, and while that culture has somewhat faded over the years, we refuse to let it die. We want to share the happy times with you through our tasty and delicious food and southern hospitality. We have a full bar and also feature a South Carolina Moonshine! I ordered the mahi mahi with 2 sides, a salad and mashed potatoes. The fish was tender and seasoned well. The potatoes were slightly warm, not what I like, but I ate them. The other dinner was shrimp and grits. Some people love them, but occasionally it’s just okay.

Never been before and we were literally looking for a place for dinner and lucked out into finding this restaurant. Mary and Cookie could not have been better servers. I took a photo of the shrimp and grits. A masterpiece in beauty and taste! The cornbread was delicious and going back for everything, including the moonhattan moon shine! So much food is given, I have plenty for lunch. If you are looking to go out to eat and want to leave knowing you had a good meal, this is the place!

This was the best dish I’ve ever had. I had the barramundi (catch of the day) and it was cooked perfectly. My husband got the boil and it took us awhile to peel all the shrimp, but there was a lot of it! The atmosphere was so relaxing and cookie took great care of us. Will definitely revisit this place when we go back! My husband got the key lime pie and banana pudding. Both were delicious!

We’ve loved this place and have eaten here for years (since it opened) when visiting the area but the food isn’t nearly as good as it used to be – neither is the service. The staff has changed considerably although the last couple of years there has only been one hostess/server and she’s barely adequate at best, even with only two tables to care for. On her phone constantly, loud, and indifferent to customers – just complains. We don’t even see the owner anymore – maybe that’s changed too. Such a shame because we’ve always looked forward to their special dishes and hospitality but this time we were sadly ‘one and done’. Hope they’ll figure it out!

We went to Lowcountry Backyard only an hour or so after landing in Hilton head. We were starving and they did not disappoint. My catch of the day sandwich was delicious, tender fish that was well seasoned and paired with delicious, juicy tomatoes and pickles. The Shrimp and Grits were the most delicious my mom (who grew up in the Deep South) had ever tasted and I agree. Absolutely fantastic food, highly recommend. They brew their own tea and it was tremendous.

Table of 4, 5:15, no wait. There were two other table and within 10 minutes 5 more tables showed up. Ms Cookie was serving all by herself and what a great job she did!!
Appetizers: pimento cheese spread- amazing! FG tomato- fresh and light. Shrimp bisque- our favorite.
Mains: shrimp and grits- comfort food, meatloaf sandwich- delicious, shrimp purloo- mega tastes, blackened mahi sandwich- perfectly cooked.
Desserts: key lime pie and banana pudding’- get one of each!!

We had an amazing experience at Low Country Backyard restaurant tonight (Monday) with fun live music! What a hidden gem! Mary and Cookie were so gracious given that we were coming in towards the end of service and gave us laughs plus excellent and efficient service. They were kind to our to young kids and tag teamed with the other fantastic waitstaff and bus boys to get us our food and drinks fast. One of the bus boys even helped us find a table with better fan exposure to beat the heat! Will definitely be back and recommend to others looking for an authentic and delicious low country meal.

They were really busy and low on workers when we were here, so I feel that impacted the stress of workers and timing of food. The stereo was also broken at the time. However, my experience was still good overall! My blue crab drip was very good and served as my entire meal. My family enjoyed their shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, and barbecue chicken. The food was great!!
