UPDATE 1/16/2026 & 1/17/2026: We finally tried the food. Oh, man! Delicious burger, Southwestern eggrolls, and great hotdog. We love this place. We have ben a total of 3 time THIS YEAR already and we are super impressed with the seating, the service (thanks to McClane, Allen, and Cameron), the TVs all around, the prices, and now the food! (the hotdog photo was taken after I cut a piece off for my friend to try. The burger photo was taken after my friend dug in. Too good to wait! Next time we will try the breakfast!!!
1/3/2026: We really like this place! I see it being a spot for spring coming up. Abundance of TVs, 2 patio sections with TVs, great inside seating with booths, high tops, and a bar top. Draven was a great server. He kept the drinks coming for our 4 top group.
We only had drinks that night, but they have a full menu that I must try, including breakfast! I was super impressed with everything I saw and experienced. $50 (before tip) for 7 glasses of wine between my friend and me. That’s fantastic!
This used to be a BBQ place before they moved in. It is a little farther west away from all the super busy beach places. I prefer that. I think we found a winner! Seems like it could be a locals place, but having a beach house in the area, I’d say that classifies me as a local. 🙂
We will be back, Draven! Thanks for the impressive service!!

Update: Most likely our 10th visit or so. Another good meal and great service; steak bomb at the bar with Nia (sp?) serving. Prior posts: 1st visit and everything was excellent. McNeal’s Classic burger and fries were very good. Chris and Omar at the bar took great care of us. We went back 2 days later with guests and all was still good. Although the place was packed so food was a little slow. We will be back again though.

It was our first time visiting McNeal’s and it didn’t disappoint. We ordered southwest egg rolls, steak quesadillas, and chicken fried chicken (not spicy at all). Everything was hot and tasted delicious. The portion sizes were great for the price. The Tavern is a great place to have drinks and eat good food with friends. Our server Alan M. was very polite, efficient, and attentive to our table.

Food was delicious something for everyone. Waffles, steak and eggs, biscuits and gravy etc. Waitress was attentive and patient. Clean environment. Went with my husband and our children ages 20-27. Would definitely recommend.

This is their first week, so patience is necessary, but I have high expectations once they get things figured out. The food was great (my wife thought her burger was one of the best she has had), and they are not skimpy on the portion sizes.
I like the atmosphere and a lot of TVs around the place. Seating was comfortable.

Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is I think they are somewhat overpriced. The food was good but nothing exceptional. Atmosphere was good but nothing special. Just my opinion.

Had the fish sandwich, fried. Server said it was fresh and sure tasted like it. Fries were hot, cole slaw on the sandwich still crisp and local IPA. Great experience, I’ll be back.

I wish I could give it 7 stars THIS IS THE BEST SPOT IN GALVESTON (Omar is the actual best man ever! So helpful!!!! Like omg) and I don’t say that lightly. It’s only been 7 days and … Oh. My. Gosh. This is the best! The place is clean and not too loud but fun as well! Like the food was so well seasoned, the portions were huge (like we had 4 big boxes leftover), the service was amazing and fast. I couldn’t ask for more.

Let me start by saying we have been here several times. Always a pleasant experience. On this occasion the food was good, and the service was very good. However, the owner was rude. (Don’t know if it was O’Neal or McGill) We recently visited for a Monday Night Football game. The place was crowded, but we found a booth in the back corner. There are lots of TVs, but we had a limited view from the corner. Right at kickoff, the owner came by and stood talking with friends, blocking our best view. We politely let him know. His response was to suggest we change seats. He did sit down with his friends, and all was well.
He then got up and left. When he returned, he sat on the opposite side of the table blocking our view again. That was OK because at least he was sitting down. When his friend told him he was blocking our view again, he simply shrugged his shoulders and said he didn’t care. We paid our check and left.
I’m sure he didn’t care because the place was packed. But that’s no way to treat a guest. We can tolerate poor food. We can tolerate poor service. But we cannot and will not tolerate rudeness. Especially by the owner. We will not be giving McNeal’s any more of our hard earned dollars.

Great food! Tried the Reuben egg rolls! Excellent, as were the Texas meatballs! Great service. Draven, our waiter, was always keeping an eye on our table and quick with service.
