This unassuming building holds a great little restaurant with friendly servers and some awesome food. The decor just keeps coming at you, and there are always more little things to find.
I got there just as they unlocked the doors Saturday afternoon, and 3 other tables were filled within 5 minutes. Within half an hour, 3/4 of all of the tables (and the parking lot) were all filled! I figure that’s always a good sign. The food was really amazing, too.
Pictured: Beef tostadas and an utterly amazing “Chicken Surprise” (cheesy chicken over rice with a savory mushroom sauce).
This wonderful little joint is well worth a visit. The menu is simple, the people are friendly, and the food will satisfy you.

Mexican Kitchen is a staple in our house. Don’t be in a hurry if you go. On busy nights it can take time. All you need to know is small, medium, or large plate, or an order of tacos. Oh and them tamales are the best!

Mexican Kitchen has been one of my favorite places to eat since I was little!! The food is amazing and the staff is so friendly! You may have to wait a little longer than at some restaurants, but just know your food is going to be more than worth the wait!! Also the left overs are THE BEST!

I have never been so wonderfully surprised by a restaurant, it’s food, and it’s staff. ❤️ A couple of my girlfriends and I stopped in this evening for our Mexican food fix, and everything about our meal was absolutely delightful. It was our very first visit (of many to come), so our server let us know that the cuisine is not texmex but more traditional Mexican food.
To begin: the rice was the most flavorful rice I have ever had. Everything on their standard plates is so delicious I couldn’t help but to completely clear mine, and both of my girlfriends demolished theirs as well. The hand rolled tamales were made with love and so many years of experience. The HOT SAUCE is homemade and so so so delicious. I think I tried it on everything on my plate, and it was an excellent addition to all of it. I literally cannot speak enough praise about this place and the family that owns it.
If you are in Columbus, MS, I highly recommend stopping by!!

I was hopeful when I asked my husband if he wanted to try a Mexican place we haven’t tried before. I was curious and I love supporting local places. But…
We walked in on a Friday night..so I totally understand being busy and possibly experiencing low staff at this time. We were sat in the corner and sat there for over 30 minutes and was not approached or even acknowledged once seated. The table next to us with a large family was also experiencing a long period of not being waited on, so I was starting to lose hope.
I still want to try this place someday, but it might be on a weekday if we think about it. But I never got to try the food, so I can’t speak on taste or quality. I wish everyone the best of luck who works there and goes there.
I will change my review once we eat there someday.

Drove 30 miles to try out this place in observance of Cinco De Mayo and glad I did. We were seated right away at 7pm on a Friday night and had a very attentive waitress. The food is authentic Mexican food and it was devine. The authenticity of their dishes and the quaint atmosphere is what sets them apart from the rest! I will be a repeat patron for many years to come.

Great food but not your typical Mexican food. You do get a healthy portion but the price may seem a little high. I recommend the large plate if you are hungry, but a medium plate will usually fill you up.

Food was good and the server was attentive. Final check is still a bit on the high side but not ridiculous. Bottom line, no other restaurant in town tastes like the Mexican Kitchen or has the “atmosphere” it has. Its worth a try!
