In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. On our way back home to Texas, my brother and I decided to grab breakfast at the Black Bear Diner. The outside of the restaurant has carvings of bears and a bench with bears on either side. The inside of the restaurant is very elegant, all the decorations and displays are black bears which fits the persona of the restaurant perfectly. We were promptly greeted by Ms. LaNeisa, who has a very bubbly personality, made us feel welcomed, and very kind smile and lead us to our table. She took our drink orders, 2 cups of coffee, and water. Ms. LaNeisa, took our orders I ordered the Shasta Veggie Scramble which had
Avocado, spinach, tomato, onion, bell pepper & jack cheese with wheat toast and crispy hash brown potatoes. My brother had the 2-Egg Classic Combos. All egg breakfasts are served with choice of side and a homemade biscuit, he opted for two chicken sausage, and pancakes. Both our meals were mouth watering and very delicious. After eating we were looking to buy some shirts but didn’t have anything we liked. I really liked this place. Please come by and see the folks at the Black Bear Diner, say hello to Ms. LaNeisa.

I had the best breakfast I’ve had in years. The waitress Angie was great, extremely hard working, and wonderful to chat with. The orange juice was amazing. Fresh squeezed by the way. Rosa the cook seemed like she had been my personal cook for years. I cook at home a lot and know what I like. Going out to eat isn’t usually a treat, because I have to sacrifice something being cooked their way. However, here everything was cooked exactly how I would, or better. Eggs were over easy to perfection, hash browns were nice and crispy outside, and soft inside. The steak may have been a bit more medium than medium rare, but was so good. Seasoned so perfectly using any kind of sauce would be a crime. To top it off the pancake was like a dessert after breakfast. I would highly recommend eating here, and if you get Angie, and Rosa you won’t be disappointed.

I got the new York steak and eggs and they were so good! The seasoning was a little much and it overpowered the fries and the steak but it was so good and filling! My grandma got the pot roast I think and she loved it! The waitress was the sweetest and the atmosphere was so quiet even whispering felt loud.

Staff is a hit or miss. Our server was always more occupied with somrthing else and the store was empty. She was super patchy and loud..again no one else in here.
Food came out a little stale like it was sitting unser the heater for too long and another tasted like it wasn’t cooked long enough.

Food was good. Service was pretty slow, unfortunately. Even though they weren’t very busy on a Monday late morning. I love that they have fresh squeezed OJ, and house hot sauces. Very large, varied menu, and I’m excited to try many more items! I just hope service will be more attentive next time!

We had a mixed experience, warranting 3 stars. The hash browns were disappointingly undercooked, lacking the crispness I expected. The chorizo burrito was flavorful, but the onions were also undercooked, which affected the texture. On a positive note, the sweet cream waffle was decent, though not exceptional. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was cozy, but the undercooked items left me wanting more consistency. We plan on coming back to try other dishes.

Five stars all around for this place! My first time here and I’m impressed! Love the bear theme! The breakfast was absolutely delicious and the sweet cream pancakes are too die for! Good portions, great price! I will definitely be adding this to my breakfast restaurant list!

This place is cool. It was really busy but our service wasn’t great. The food is ok. I had the Hobo Omelette. It was fine, just not a lot of flavor. The biscuits are HUGE! The coffee tastes weak to me. Not bad, just a weak coffee flavor. The hash browns would be much better if they were browned more…maybe I will ask for that if I come back. It’s an ok place to eat.

Upon arrival I was immediately greeted and seated by the Manager. My server took my order and I had my drink and corn muffin in less than a minute!! The food came out piping hot and was extremely fresh! The place was very clean and was packed!! I was honestly stunned how fast I got my food! I would highly recommend this blackbear diner location to all of my friends and family as the service was legendary, and the food was even better! A++
