Aberdeen is my hometown, and I spend time there visiting family and working on my land. Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate El Jefe because reliable, plant-based meal options can be limited in town. When I want something beyond the usual fast-food choices, this is the place I think of. The staff has always been accommodating with vegan enchiladas, plant-based fajitas loaded with vegetables, and hearty bean burritos that feel like real, home-style meals. It’s one of those spots I trust when I’m in town for a few days and want to eat well, feel nourished, and keep moving the next day. Friendly service and consistency keep it on my short list every time.

During my recent dining experience, I encountered several issues. Firstly, I discovered hair in my food, which was a concerning matter. Secondly, the customer service provided was very bad. Despite my request for a refund, the staff refused to comply and persistently attempted to serve me additional food.

I went here every day for lunch while in town working. They make the BEST chimechanga I’ve ever had, and I try that dish at every Mexican place I go to. I’ve been to over 100 different places all across the country, and so far, no one beats their dish! If I’m ever heading through Mississippi again I will make it a point to stop by just for that! *chef’s kiss*

The last time I was there, none of the restrooms were working. There’s not enough servers. The frozen margarita machine has been out of order for months. The list goes on and on, but unfortunately it’s the only “set down” restaurant in town that serves adult beverages. The city wants the establishment there but a lot of changes need to be made.

It’s okay. Only Mexican option in town. The food, depending on what you can get, is marginal. The beef enchilada was bland. Just cooked ground beef inside and non exciting sauces. Friend had fajitas and they looked pretty good and came out sizzling. Moderate prices. Easy parking.

We were just traveling through town and found this little “mom and pop” mexican place in internet. Food was REALLY GOOD. I ordered lunch steak and rice. When the owner found out I had arthritis, he had kitchen cut my steak for me in advance. Good, hearty Mexican food with nice American hamburger for our kid too! Highly recommend!

Cute and quaint! My mom and I went here for lunch after an estate sale this past Saturday and so glad we did! The restaurant is so clean and nice, just love the beautiful pine booths. The attentive gentleman taking care of us was ever so kind and friendly. Took our drink order, including one margarita, which is highly recommended. Then these fresh hot chips with salsa appeared, via another gentleman(rather quickly too). We ordered and the place started to get a little busy. Our gentleman was taking care of everyone by himself and doing an excellent job at that, bravo! We didn’t wait long for our food. It was delicious with generous portions. We asked for some go boxes and one to go water and left satisfied. If you go to/through Aberdeen, El Jefe’ is well worth the stop.

The salad bowl was great, I ordered a side of sautéed mushrooms. They were way over sautéed. They were burnt! They were very pleasant about my complaint and didn’t charge me for it.
