What a blast from the past!!! As kids we ate at our local ponderosa and loved it!!! I haven’t eaten at one since ours closed years ago!!! On our vacation my wife found this one and it was definitely worth every penny!!! It was like walking back into the early 2000’s!! They have all the same delicious food that they had back then. If we decide to go back to this part of Michigan we will definitely be returning!!! The staff was absolutely great as was the fresh food!!

Ah Ponderosa, it’s like taking a step back in time to 1980s/1990s America when places like this were king! A great place to enjoy whatever it is you’d like, even a top notch steak dinner! Very family friendly and oriented for larger groups of people. Great for picky eaters or families with kids! Cost is just right and won’t break the bank! Come experience Ponderosa today!

I stopped here on the way back from a business trip. I hadn’t been to a ponderosa in years (thought they were all gone). Not this one. The building is newer and the outside shrubbery trimmed and nicely landscaped. Inside it was very clean with a number of people working to keep it so.
This is definitely not your ordinary buffet. Everything was freshly made and constantly monitored for freshness. The hot foods were hot and the cold food cold.
There is so much it’s hard to know where to start.
Huge selection of delicious foods of all kinds. The chicken was tasty and juicy whether baked fried or wings. Wonderful selection of fish and shrimp.
Fresh cooked veggies green beans and carrots. Piping hot mashed potatoes with both beef and chicken gravy.
The various beef selections at the buffet were taco meat and meatloaf both excellent (we just got the buffet so no report on the steaks).
Always two homemade tasting soups I had the broccoli and cheese. My wife had the chicken noodle both superb.
In addition our drinks are constantly refreshed and dishes removed as soon as they were set aside.
Our server Kathy went out of her way to make sure we were attended to. She would fit in as a server at a 5 star restaurant!
I drove here again with my wife (2) hours from my home just so my wife could try it. Just as outstanding as my first visit.
Will make sure to come here occasionally as it is a long drive. If it were closer I would be here weekly.

We really enjoyed our lunch – “all you can eat” buffet. The buffet food was fresh and they kept it replenished.

Staff was friendly. Tables were kept cleared.

Best steak hands down. Best rolls ever. Everything melts in your mouth. This is a childhood favorite of mine!! When I ran into the place on my road trip back home we had to stop-in. Great, large space and good atmosphere. The buffet was ok. Salad is always good. But the steak is the highlight. Not overly seasoned but well flavored and buttery. So juicy, hot and you can taste the freshness. I love the baked potato also I always get it loaded with cheese try a little ranch on it- thank me later!

I dont think we’ve ever had a bad experience here! They always keep the food bars clean and stocked with a very wide variety of items! Definately something for everyone. And the servers are always on top of their game. We will always keep this place in our rotation when we go out to eat!

My brother & I got invited to go out to eat. And our Pastor & his wife took us out to eat here. They are great long time close friends too. They paid for our meals. We ate from the Buffet. Plenty of Options to eat. Very good food too. And lots of healthy options. We loved it. Our Waitress was phenomenal. Very attentive, very friendly & kind. We were given excellent customer service .We were here on Sunday January 4th ,2026. In the afternoon . I believe “our table #14.” She said. It was. You can find her name. That way. We had 6 great beautiful people . Great friends at our table. I highly recommend this Restaurant to anyone. And to all people.

Bay City Ponderosa buffet was very good. They have a nice variety of food on display and is prepared well. I was there for quite a long time and observed their continued cleaning of the food area. After I had gotten my food I sat down and noticed that a gentleman that works there named Bo was continuously cleaning the floor the tables the chairs. Even though he was doing all the cleaning he was also waiting the tables and was very attentive. My water was half week gone and he’d already delivered another water for me. Plenty of napkins and asked if I found everything okay. And check out my pictures of all the food. I especially enjoyed The fried pollock. This is a definite return place. This would be great for families with kids. I’m finished everything off with a peach cobbler that was delicious.

I stopped for dinner on a Tuesday evening around 6:45 pm and there were around 8 other customers dining in. I ordered the beef tips, cooked medium rare with french fries. I also asked them to hold the onions.
I took a table close to the buffet bar and noticed how clean it was and very large as well. My server came over to my table and brought me my drink and some napkins. He told me to help myself to the buffet and I started at the salad bar. By the time I was done with my salad my server brought me my dinner and the beef tips were small and the fries were seasoned. Had I known that I would have ordered the baked potato. The beef was very chewy and, in some spots, very gristly, to where it was uneatable. I ate what I wanted of the beef tips, and I was glad the buffet was included in my meal. I should have gotten the buffet only.
I went back for another salad and then finished it off with a bowl of soft serve ice cream.
It was nice to stop here and reminisce about the 80’s and 90’s visiting, the long gone, Ponderosa in my hometown. If I’m in the area again, I would stop by, but only for the buffet. While I was there, I noticed how well they kept their buffet clean and up to par. Really one of the better buffets you will find. I see why this place is one of the few locations left, their staff really cares.
