LONG BEACH Seafood- Singapore’s leading seafood restaurant and also the CREATOR of the Original and Best Black Pepper Crab in Singapore. It all started at Bedok Rest House (1946), where LONG BEACH Seafood was then one of the few restaurants that served local food. During that period, locals hardly ate out, except for major celebratory events such as Weddings. Located along the beach, LONG BEACH was frequently patronized by the British Army and soon became a bustling location popular with locals attracted by the sandy beach facing the sea. The crowds continued to increase with time as word of mouth got around of the delectable seafood served.

Had a wonderful company dinner at Long Beach, a renowned seafood restaurant in Singapore that is known to be the creator of the original black pepper crab dish. The restaurant is nestled amidst the lush greenery of Dempsey Hill, the restaurant serves the freshest seafood from the tanks to the tables. We ordered:

– Deep fried baby squid with honey sauce
– Crispy white bait fish with salt & pepper
– Steamed Scottish royal razor clam with minced garlic & vermicelli
– Live drunken prawns with herbal soup
– Chilli crab
– Black pepper crab
– Deep fried pomfret
– Fresh scallops with broccoli
– Irish roast duck
– ‘Ching Mun ‘ braised noodles with fresh clams
– Mango sago with coconut jelly

The restaurant really lives up to its name and did not disappoint. Everything was delicious! I would highly recommend the crispy white bait fish, royal clam, chilli crab and Irish roast duck. I love their drunken prawns as well, especially the herbal soup. But this is probably not for those who hate the taste of alcohol. I love it because of the strong taste of herbs and alcohol. So rich and nourishing.

It was wonderful having dinner at an outdoor table, especially on a breezy February night. Atmosphere was lovely as the lights lit in the garden. We had Chili crab and razor clam and yes, it was wonderful as usual.

Used to have good services in the past, even deshell crab for us during COVID period. This round the services is a bit disappointing, probably because they are busy? Need to request for chilli, and a few reminders before they helped us to top up the Chinese tea. Food-wise, general their seafood is good. The asparagus is nice, the broccoli seems to be cooked using same sauce but the taste is slightly not as flavourful. Roast Chicken skin is crispy. No offer of gloves, apron, or scissors when we had the princess crab. Servers only offer to change plate for few of us, when we are almost done with the crab. Used to offer all to us without requesting.

Fried food is ok. Disappointed on the crab meat, we open the crab and find the meat is not filling full. The quality is not worth for the price. Feedback to staff they mention deep sea crab is this standard. Another thing is eating half way find a hair in the vegetable. Usually I will not post to Google review directly but too disappointed on the reason giving on the crab so I didn’t report again.

It’s served with a rich, spicy-sweet chili sauce — a perfect blend of tomato, egg, a bit of tang, and a nice chili kick.
The sauce clings to the tender crab meat for an incredibly satisfying bite.
Don’t waste the sauce — dip it with crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside fried buns or pour it over steamed rice. So good, you’ll want every last drop!

The spacious and open dining area feels relaxed and comfortable. The floral-embroidered tablecloths add a classy touch, and the staff are friendly and attentive.

Dining Review – Long Beach Dempsey (23 August 2025)

We had a wonderful dinner at Long Beach yesterday for 4 persons, 23 August 2025. Our order included four black pepper local mud crabs, one fried chicken, and 600 grams of Bloach prawns.

The crabs were the highlight of the evening – cooked perfectly with a rich black pepper sauce that was both fragrant and flavorful. The seasoning was just right, enhancing the natural sweetness of the crab meat without overpowering it.

The fried chicken was another pleasant surprise – crispy on the outside while remaining soft, juicy, and tender inside. It was simple yet very well executed.

The Bloach prawns were fresh and cooked with care, offering a firm bite and sweet flavor that paired beautifully with the other dishes.

Overall, the food was delicious and satisfying. Long Beach continues to deliver on quality seafood and local favorites, making it a great place to enjoy a hearty meal with friends and family.

Yan li(assistant manager) is very professional and versatile, accommodating to difficult situations and also helping me reccomend dishes despite several changes. Overall the food reccomended was great. Posting this as I really appreciate her adaptability and willingness to accommodate. Chilli crab is great along with other reccomendated dishes.

Wife had a craving for chili crab, so we went back to our usual long beach restaurant. Didn’t book a table before hand, so tried our luck with walk-in. Luckily (or rather unluckily) for us. We had a table but it was a disappointing dinner.

1. Crab is not fresh, some part of the flesh is mushy. At the tail end of the dish (and we took less than an hour to finish our dinner, the crab tasted “fishy” 腥味)
2. Chili crab sauce is too sweet, lingering taste of ketchup or was it too much sugar added?
3. Chrysanthemum tea was bland

Star dish for the dinner was the steamed prawns, which were fresh, juicy & delicious. Giving it a 2 *

Silver fish fried rice is just ok. Not bad, lacked wok hei. So definitely edible but not delicious.

Overall, a disappointing dining experience. We’ll stop patronising this outlet, and with options of Jumbo in the vicinity. Likely we’ll stop dining at Long Beach from now onwards.

Food was really good. Nicely presented. The sweet and sour pork, egg fried rice both pretty good. We tried the crab with white jade sauce for the first time. I thought it was pretty good and my daughter who does not like spicy food enjoyed crab for the first time. So pretty good all round.
