In 1995 founders Bruce Dean and Bob & Laurie Manley opened the first Black Bear Diner in Mt. Shasta, CA. Their mission was simple: create a fun and friendly atmosphere where the local community could enjoy huge portions of home-style cooking at a reasonable price. Today, we continue their mission at every Black Bear Diner across the country, as we passionately provide guests an outstanding experience. Coming into town early evening and hungry. Wife looks up grub online and comes up with this place. It’s a chain of over 100 locations but we’d never heard of it before. Incredible luck. We wanted to sit in a booth but none were available so we waited. No fewer than 5 different (very friendly) people approached us while we were waiting to ask about getting us seated. Our server, Courtney, was delightful, helpful, and efficient. Not only was the food fresh, well prepared, and beautiful, but the portions are enormous. The Cobb Salad was absolutely loaded with crispy chicken, crumbled bleu cheese, avocado, chopped thick sliced crispy bacon, croutons, hard boiled eggs, chopped tomato and onion, on a super fresh bed of romaine and iceberg lettuce. The bleu cheese dressing was served in a bowl! A huge amount. Wife had sliced roast turkey with mashed potatoes, gravy, broccoli, salad, and cornbread. Neither of us could finish our plate. Totally worth every penny of the $33 tab. This place is fantastic. Great food, great service, huge portions, and reasonable prices.

By far my favorite Black Bear diner that I’ve been to. Been coming for years and the service has been nothing but the best. The food comes in big portions. Prices are descent especially with the serving sizes. Come for breakfast and leave with enough for dinner.

Black Bear Diner served up the best breakfast I had on my entire U.S. trip. The pancakes were incredible — I got them with chocolate chips, and they were absolutely ginormous. Even though it’s a franchise, it still manages to feel like a cozy, local spot.

They stay open until 10! The food was fresh, fast and delicious. There is a Chef there. Menu offers great variety but not overwhelming. The manager was incredibly welcoming and gracious as we entered 15 min. Before closing. It was clear the remaining customers were regulars and warm rapport throughout. This is our new place to grab a bite. Thank you BBD and Sean.

First things first, Linda is completely on it, she had me going and my food to me within 6 minutes, absolutely amazing experience. She 100% deserves any raise or bonus you can get her especially since it’s the holidays. Excellent job! Second, Great atmosphere in this town. Everyone talking and having a good time. Great food, 7 star service, great place to eat.

Happy Thanksgiving’s Day! We chose and purchased our holiday meals online for pickup at 2pm on Thanksgiving’s Day. We arrived at Black Bear Diner at 1:55pm. I walked in and picked up our meal in less than 5 minutes. When we got back home, our meals were still hot enough to eat, but I chose to transfer them to dinner plates and heat them up just a little bit. Well, the food looked, smelled, and tasted absolutely delicious. We were throughly happy with our meals. My husband had the ham meal and I had turkey. They both came with mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, green beans, salad, and pumpkin pie. Oh my, we felt stuffed, but very satisfied. This is our second year doing Thanksgiving this way. No pots and pans to wash, and clean-up is easy peasy. I highly recommend Black Bear Diner for your Thanksgiving meal. They also do Christmas.

This place is hit and miss some days its great other days its horrible the last tine I went there the food was so bad I won’t be going back for a while. I have a breakfeast burrito ( hard to mess up). They took all the burt crap on the grill and stuffed it I’m my .burrito. as if that was the n worst it was sonhard it cracked my tooth in the first bite. I give them 3 stars instead of 1 because the wait staff is usually pretty good. Some times you wait and wait but usually they are on it
