Our story starts in 1853 when the barn that houses the bar was built (Lincoln wasn’t President yet). As far as barns go, this one is pretty cool and it’s amazing it has stood this long, even surviving the Great Dayton Flood of 1913. In 2014 after a complete renovation, the place was rechristened the Rip Rap Roadhouse which was founded on the belief that great food and great service at a reasonable price will get people to keep coming back, and hopefully, they’ll tell their friends. “In 2053 our barn will be 200 years old. Everything we do today is to make sure that the Rip Rap Roadhouse is still in business for the bicentennial and that it is viewed as one of the places that make the Miami Valley special to those that live here. The meatloaf is delicious. The pulled pork is top notch. Loaded tots (cant remember the actual name on menu) were delicious as well. Cant wait to return to try more food.
I would have no problem coming back here.
The staff was wonderful. We had hoped to watch a non-local sports game, and the team went above and beyond to help. They searched through the guide twice right in front of us to confirm they couldn’t get the channel (the game must have been out of market). Their effort, especially during a busy evening, was impressive and very appreciated.
For dinner, we ordered the Southwest Chicken Salad and the Meatloaf Sandwich. The salad was delicious—the chicken was perfectly seasoned and not the least bit dry, which is surprisingly rare at many restaurants. The Meatloaf Sandwich looked great, and my partner enjoyed it thoroughly.
As beer drinkers, we were happy to find a strong draft lineup with both familiar favorites and a rotating selection, including local craft options. Prices were more than reasonable, and the overall vibe was laid-back with a friendly, relaxed crowd.
Oh, and plan ahead! They offer a discount if you pay in cash.
Overall, it was a perfect roadhouse experience, and we will definitely be back!
We ordered the fish and chips, and Steak dinners. All our meals were delicious and cooked to perfection. We had a few drinks that was very refreshing.
The place has plenty of seating with a great atmosphere. Our waitresses was awesome and very attentive. We also enjoyed reviewing the cars after we finished our meal. We had a wonderful dining experience.
