Reviews
The bathroom was clean with floor to ceiling stalls (comfy) and smelled pleasant.
The restaurant had a pleasant atmosphere.
The waitress was Kenzy she gets her own rating. She was attentive, kept our drinks filled, offered to go cups and was an all around pleasant person. She made sure we were happy with our choices (we were) and the food was hot when it arrived.
The only thing was, the hand crafted foods were for individual orders, not on the buffet. Catfish must be a local favorite, I did not partake. The food on the buffet was typical buffet fair, but the potatoes were not instant, the green beans had bacon and onions, and the gravy wasn’t clumpy. I appreciated.
There wasn’t any soup on the salad bar and no rolls. My suggestion would be to add hot rolls or at least serve them at the table and add soup. Not a complaint, just an observation.
We loved it and will likely visit again on subsequent trips.
It is obvious that someone with money and a great vision designed a restaurant, -but they forgot to find someone with an equal or greater vision to design and manage the food delivery!
4 STARS on the following:
– Bathrooms were spotless, modern, clean and smelled great!
– Interior decor was interesting and worth coming to see!
– Interior was clean and well-maintained!
– highway billboards captured us with the endless fresh salad options!
3 STARS on the salad bar:
– some interesting, pleasing options (crumbled blue cheese)
– fresh product and ingredients
– a few interesting pre-made salad options (though really repetitive and recipes were obviously designed with the idea of storing without spoilage for a couple of days)
– on the whole, fresh ingredients allow you to custom build some fresh varieties of your own salads, though nothing ultra special.
– a negative were the HUGE plastic pitchers of salad dressings…. (though, again, obviously a multi-day option for fresh food and fresh dressing…)
2 STARS for the hot food bar:
(I would have given 1 star except for the decent fried catfish, which was the only thing I really felt was bith safe and inviting to eat)
To many negatives to list about yhe hot food, and it will be kinder not to do so.
I LOVE tomatoes of every kind and sort, but the big steaming vat of stewed tomatoes, (and no bowls) just made no sense. I’ve never seen this anywhere, and it looked like simply a place-filler…
I must note that while the service was kind, both the service and the menu (?!?) truly seemed to belong to a truck stop. Very strange and incongruous with the decor design…
They also had a gluten free menu.
We had the top sirloin, and it was awesome! They did have a buffet, but we didn’t take part. Although, as were on our way out, we were attacked by the bear in the front which was still fun to watch!
⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3 out of 5)
The Silo Restaurant offers a hearty buffet at a fair price point of $15.99, and overall, it delivers a solid dining experience. The buffet featured a generous variety of options—from fried and baked chicken, fried fish, and pork chops to a full spread of vegetables and a well-stocked salad bar.
Flavors across the board were enjoyable, though there’s room for a few improvements. The fried chicken, in particular, was noticeably overcooked during our visit, and some items on the hot bar could’ve used a bit more attention to freshness in appearance. Adding labels for the salad dressings would also help guests navigate their choices with ease.
Service was a highlight—friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Seating was comfortable, with a layout that allowed for a bit of privacy and a quieter meal, which was appreciated. There’s also plenty of parking available, even for RV travelers.
All in all, The Silo Restaurant is a dependable stop in Sullivan—especially for those craving a down-home buffet experience—with a few tweaks that could make it even better. Reduced to 3 stars for expensive tea cost. $3.20!!!!
I didn’t order it, but they had a huge salad and hit food, all you can eat buffet.
