Food (4/5):
We ordered the Tequeños, chicken pastelitos, and a Pabellón. The Tequeños were fresh, perfectly fried, and had a nice crispiness to them. The portion size was ideal, and the nata that came with them was a delightful addition that paired well with the dish.
The chicken pastelitos were flavorful, though at $3.50 each, I found them to be a bit overpriced for what you get. They were fried well but didn’t quite justify the cost.
The Pabellón, a traditional Venezuelan dish, was as expected—solid but not remarkable. The shredded beef, black beans, rice, and plantains were all well-prepared but lacked a bit of flavor to really make it stand out.
Service (2/5):
The service was casual, and while the staff was friendly, it’s more of a self-serve type of restaurant. You order at the table, but at times, you may need to get up and go to the bar for assistance. The laid-back approach works for a relaxed meal, but if you’re looking for more attentive service, this might not be the spot. Also, some tables weren’t completely clean when we arrived, which detracted a bit from the overall experience.
Atmosphere (3/5):
The atmosphere was typical of a small, casual Latin restaurant. There was a big-screen TV playing Latin music, which gave the place a lively vibe. However, the cleanliness of both the dining area and the bathrooms left something to be desired. The restaurant had a homey feel, but these small details took away from the experience.
Mango Latino Grill is a solid choice if you’re craving traditional Venezuelan food, but there are areas for improvement, especially in terms of pricing, service, and cleanliness. While I enjoyed the food overall, it didn’t quite hit the mark for a five-star experience.
CONS: We (family of 4) ordered different items per person. Some were seasoned flavorly. Some were just a tad bland (in particular, the black beans & rice).
PROS: Diversity in food selection. Empanadas alone had about a choice of 6 different fillings. The other daughter had what looks like a ‘triple bypass burger’ with hamburger meat, ham, & bacon. She loved it. My steak & onions were savory & the plantains were juicy, sweet, & hot. The TV was on music videos that made you want to visit the Caribbean to dance & be on the water.
The food is amazing! It is a golden hole in the wall! Very small business but so delicious and staff is so friendly!
