A Scenic Escape for a Casual Meal in Dahlonega
After a few days of camping at Amicalola Falls, we were ready for a change of scenery and cuisine. The Hideaway Restaurant, located about a 20-minute drive away, seemed like a promising option. The journey itself is a highlight, winding through the beautiful North Georgia mountains and setting a relaxing tone for the evening.
Ambiance and Service
The restaurant is part of a larger resort complex that appears to host corporate meetings and events, giving the area a secluded, retreat-like feel. Inside, the restaurant’s decor is pleasant and casual—not overly fancy, but clean and fitting for its mountainside location.
What truly stood out was the service. The staff was exceptionally friendly and genuinely helpful, patiently guiding us through the menu and offering recommendations. Their warm hospitality made us feel welcome right away.
A Look at the Food
Our meal was a mixed experience, with some decent dishes and a few that missed the mark for our party.
Appetizer: We started with the Brussels sprouts. While we appreciated the attempt at a bold flavor, they were a bit too sour for our personal taste.
Main Courses: The Chicken Sandwich was a solid choice—a satisfying and straightforward classic. The accompanying fries, however, were just average. My kids ordered the pasta, which they found to be a little too oily for their liking, though the flavor was otherwise agreeable.
Dessert: We had high hopes for the Banana Pudding, but it was unfortunately the low point of the meal. The texture was inconsistent, suggesting it was both under and overcooked in different spots. Ironically, the simple scoop of ice cream served alongside it was the most enjoyable part of the dessert.
Final Thoughts
The Hideaway Restaurant offers a decent meal in a beautiful and convenient location, especially for those staying at nearby state parks like Amicalola. The friendly service and scenic setting are definite pluses.
However, it’s best to visit with measured expectations. While some menu items are perfectly enjoyable, others might not consistently hit the mark. Think of it as a reliable spot for a casual bite rather than a destination for a gourmet culinary experience. If you’re in the area and looking for a comfortable place to eat with a lovely view, it’s worth considering.

Beautiful location and intimate setting/atmosphere with wonderful service, employees and customers both. The food was lacking, especially at it’s price point. Tasted like a lot of it was frozen and not fresh, then overcooked. The local wines and desserts were very pleasant.

So we happened upon this place after being at Amicalola Falls. At first I didn’t know what to make of it, but it turned out to be a very romantic surprise. When we walked in, we told the server 2 and she escorted us to this back room called the secret garden! It was just a place for couples! I thought that was a really cool thing to do! Our server was a boss; she had the entire room and didn’t miss a step. The food was very delicious and you definitely got your moneys worth. The portion sizes were not small. I ordered the chicken tenders. So good a crispy and the fried chicken. We didn’t know how we felt about the jalapeño gravy..best to put it on the side. Don’t forget about the pretzel and beer cheese! . Next time we come we have got to try the Salmon and the ribeye steak.

We were so excited about dinner here. We went to the couple only section of the restaurant . The server was a bit too eager to share her whole life story with us , but she was pleasant. The food was not great for what we paid for it. It was so very, very expensive and it was food straight from the freezer . We ordered a pretzel, and it came out hard as a rock, and the beer cheese was sour. The pork chop had great flavor, but the mashed potatoes were instant, and the green beans were unseasoned. My husband order the salmon and it was just ok. The fish definitely was a frozen fish and a bit fishy .

I found this restaurant on Maps. I read a couple of reviews, but I decided to go. Let’s start with the location. The restaurant is beautiful and there’s no plastic chairs or furniture which I appreciate. It’s a family-friendly restaurant. Today is May 10th, so there wasn’t a menu, just a buffet. The cost was $108 for two people. About the price… Believe it or not… The taste of the food covers the price (amazing). But the service was very slow, and the buffet line was 25-30 minutes long to get your plate. At first, we were told that a lot of staff called out… Which I have observed latent even in fast food restaurants. But… Maybe for mother’s days… They should plan it better. Well…. Let’s be happy and honestly Thank God I can spend 108 dollars on a buffet for two adults xD

Mediocre for the price point. Very cozy location, with a huge seating capacity. Beautiful area. I loved the restaurant just wish the food was a bit better. The stuffed mushroom was very delicious. The ribeye I would say 6 out of 10. The potatoes were below average quality. The broccoli I would say was cooked perfect just nothing interesting about it. Our server was great.

The food was amazing and the atmosphere was relaxed and beautiful. I have had the salmon and also the sea bass. They were both incredible. But the sea bass melts in your mouth. Stephanie was great. 5 stars and 2 thumbs up.

Amazing hidden gem of Dawson county! Great food, service, and no wait on a Saturday night! We live in downtown Dawsonville and this beats going out to 400 by a mile! Far nicer drive too!
Food was amazing! Wife’s meatloaf was perfect and had a great grilled “char”. Homemade mash potato’s and greens to round it out. I had the classic bacon cheeseburger and it was fantastic!

This restaurant is absolutely amazing, there is no other way for me to describe it! The food was SO delicious and we were so surprised at the size of the plates! An amazing price for what we ordered! For appetizers, we ordered the stuffed mushroom and bacon jalapeño tater tots. I have a picture of the mushroom, but unfortunately I ate those tater tots before I could snap one. The tater tots were about the size of a half dollar coin, if not bigger! We both order the baked ziti with fried chicken and we couldn’t finish it in one sitting! I also have a picture of the Secret Garden area and a couple of the sweet and beautiful cats! We are cat people and this made us feel right at home! The breakfast buffet is super delicious as well! Make sure you stop by if you’re in the area!

Beautiful spot. Awful food that has been sitting around for hours and reheated. Went there for a birthday dinner and was greeted with mats on the front door that smells like human urine. The server/hostess was MIA most of the night despite there being virtually no customers. When politely approached about the quality of food was met with awful rudeness from the “manager” who looked bombed out of their mind on something.
AVOID
