Reviews
I loved the ambience of the place. The warm colors and wood feels inviting, especially on the cold winter weekend that I decided to go.
The service, for it be not as busy as it was at the time, was on the slower side. We weren’t asked for our preference of table once was were greeted and it took even longer for someone to address the table. Once ordered, one of our two appetizers came out before the main dish (odd.) with any communication as to why and we had to ask again for our drinks. This isn’t a complaint however, our server was polite and appeared to be doing their best.
The food was pretty good. The stand out for me was the Takoyaki, which was to die for! So much flavor and the octopus was delicious!
I wondered the Tokyo Demon Slayer promotion bowl for the collector’s spoon which was in stock!! The ramen inside was good but it could use more flavor so additives such as the seasoning is a much for that one.
Overall, it was a lovely experience and I do plan on coming back to try some of their other bowls (more Takoyaki!).
We ordered three appetizers: the octopus balls were decent (not my favorite flavor-wise), the spicy creamy shrimp tempura was sooo good (A++), and the pork gyoza was my second favorite—you really can’t go wrong with potstickers.
For drinks, I had the Smoky Old Fashioned (the smoke made it taste a bit weird for me) and The Manhattan, which was very good. For my main, I ordered the spicy ramen, but it wasn’t spicy at all and could’ve used more flavor.
That said, I’d still come back to try more items. Service was great, and there’s definitely more on the menu I want to explore. Also, please make a reservation.
I’m thrilled that JINYA has finally opened its doors in Michigan! I’ve been eagerly awaiting this, as it’s genuinely one of my favorite ramen spots in the US. They manage to serve truly authentic Japanese ramen at an impressively inexpensive price point.
The Good Stuff
• My Go-To: The JINYA Tonkotsu Black is absolutely fantastic and my personal favorite.
• Customization: I appreciate that you can customize your bowl and easily make it a combo.
• Service: The staff here is well-organized and friendly enough to make the experience smooth.
• Recommendation: Overall, this is an authentic Japanese ramen restaurant that I highly recommend!
One Request (A Ramen Fan’s Ask)
My one honest critique is about the noodle doneness. For serious ramen fans, I felt the noodles might have been boiled a little too long.
In other JINYA locations, I’ve been able to request specific noodle hardness levels, and I really hope the Michigan location adds this option soon:
• Kata (Harder noodles)
• Hari Gane (Hardest noodles, often boiled for only ~5 seconds, barely shedding the wheat powder).
Adding these options would truly elevate the experience for aficionados.
Final Verdict: Despite the minor noodle preference issue, JINYA delivers on quality, flavor, and value. Go and enjoy some authentic ramen!
The Spicy Chicken Ramen was packed with bold, well-balanced flavor and perfectly cooked noodles, and the Chicken Chashu Bowl was hearty and satisfying. We ended with mochi, which was the perfect sweet touch to finish the meal.
KEV truly made the experience next-level. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. His recommendations were spot-on, and his service was seamless from start to finish.
