If you look at the receipt I didn’t receive the food until 11:41 and ONLY because I asked. Need NEW and BETTER employees.
At 9:53 PM.
Allow me to repeat that time, because it deserves its own paragraph.
9:53 PM.
That’s over two hours left. Plenty of time for a quick dinner, right? Apparently not.
We hadn’t even started ordering when we were told we couldn’t eat in the dining room. Why? Because they planned to clean it. Not that it had been cleaned, not that anyone was cleaning, just that they planned to. Meanwhile, there were still people sitting inside eating their meals. Open for them, closed for us. I’ll admit, I’ve never been so jealous of strangers eating burgers.
The solution we were offered? Outside.
Let me paint the scene for you: it was dark, warm, humid, and the mosquitoes were swarming. Eating there wasn’t dinner, it was survival training. My family had spent the entire day outside at a festival. The whole reason we came inside was to escape exactly this kind of environment.
I asked to speak to the manager. He was standing right there. Did he acknowledge me? No. Did he turn around? No. For a moment I thought I’d somehow become invisible. Eventually, he told us, without any attempt to accommodate, that we couldn’t eat inside. Just outside, take it or leave it.
No reasoning. No flexibility. Just a firm “eat outside.”
So there we were: six exhausted, hungry people, after a long day, staring at a dining room that was still open, still had guests inside, and hadn’t even been cleaned yet. At that point, we walked out. Not because we wanted to, but because sitting in the dark, swatting mosquitoes, eating in the heat was not dinner… it was punishment.
We left hungry. Six people who came in ready to enjoy burgers, fries, custard, and cheese curds instead walked away with nothing but frustration and the memory of french fries that never were.
Culver’s has a reputation for hospitality. People come in expecting to be fed, welcomed, maybe even overfed. Instead, we got a lesson in how to be not so politely told we were inconvenient. All we wanted was a simple family dinner. Instead, we got nothing but warm Florida air, mosquitoes, and disappointment.
Somewhere out there, six ButterBurgers and a mountain of fries will never be eaten. And it’s your loss.
