I recently celebrated my birthday dinner here with my boyfriend. We made reservations in advance and the whole dining experience & service was lovely & all the food was delicious – compliments to the chef & kitchen team. The beverage director Matthew took the liberty to light the candles on my birthday cake & had it sliced & plated for me – phenomenal job. Overall, I was honestly very impressed.

Dinner for four. Food was excellent, we all had starters (2 x escargot, 1 x octopus and 1 x crispy brie). The escargot and octopus are easily single serving but the brie is quite large and could be easily shared. Two of us had lobster bisque and the pear and beet salad respectively, which were good but not incredible; pro tip, they should definitely add a bit of crumbled goat cheese the salad and they’d have a true winner. Mains were 3 x misoyaki seabass and 1 x salmon – both excellent but the seabass was the clear winner. Service was friendly and attentive with a water glass never empty, but my one critique would be clearing plates before everyone is done the respective course. The dessert menu was uninspiring so we all passed but maybe something’s delicious and we missed out? All said we had a great meal and would return.

I am so so grateful for the staff, chef, servers, and team at Upstairs! We had the private dining room reservation for our wedding day reception dinner and it was everything I imagined and more!
Every single one of our guests LOVED the food and drinks!!! Our servers were so kind and communicative and let us celebrate our special day in every possible way. They had surround sound system for us to play our dinner playlist in the background, I was able to connect my laptop and share a slideshow on both TV screens, and my two friends were able to fully decorate the long table perfectly! We brought our own fruit tart, but the dessert from our “Le Petit” Prix-Fixe Menu was delicious.

My family, friends, and I will be returning to eat more of their delicious meals and enjoy the company of this restaurant’s team.

This was our menu:
Appetizer: (Appetizers are served Family-Style)
• Auction Fresh Ahi Poke (Shoyu)
• Black Tiger Shrimp, Cocktail Sauce
Salad:(Complimentary Bread Service)
• Local Harvest Salad, Chef’s Selection
Entrée Selections
• 6 oz Petit Filet, Aligot Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetable, Café de Paris Butter
• Seared Ahi, Bacon Brussels, Crispy Potato, Roasted Garlic Vinaigrette, Red Wine Gastrique
* Salmon dish (yummy too!)
Dessert:
• Basque Cheesecake, Coulis, Caramel, Macerated Berries

We already had reservations, so there was not wait for us. The hostess was pleasant and the staff were very attentive and professional.

The entrees came on a timely manner, wait staff was mindful not to interrupt conversation but quickly jumped in between to make sure we were taken care of.
As for dinner, the Spanish octopus was delicious but a little tough, it could have been cooked longer. Other wise very good.

The salmon special was tasty but a little over cooked.

The , 6oz fillet mignon was not medium rare as I ordered but the mushroom were great. The sauce could have been a little lighter. Otherwise beautiful presentation of the dishes.

Our seating arrangement was beautiful looking over the fishing boats, perfect place for a romantic evening with someone special.

Great selection of dishes and drinks, views of the harbor, and really nice service. The spanish octopus was a little tough and more ahi would’ve been nice, but everything had great flavor and was presented nicely.

Great Location, Lacking Atmosphere
The venue itself is fantastic, and the location is great, but the ambiance falls flat. The music feels outdated—like the ’90s called and want their playlist back. A more upbeat and modern selection could do wonders in making the environment livelier. Additionally, the place had more staff than customers, which made it feel a bit off. With some improvements to the atmosphere and energy, this spot could be a real gem.

The Upstairs at Pier 38 was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a finer dining sea food restaurant. Upstairs offers that with a French influence. We sat at the chef’s counter on a Thursday night. You sit next to a large window looking into the kitchen which gave some fun views of all the dishes coming out.

The chef, Nathaniel, came out several times to speak with us and give us some extra food items including an oyster with beef tartare served on the half shell with the oyster being tempura fried. He also provided us later with a scallop over a cauliflower puree and a cilantro salsa. He did a much better job explaining the ingredients than I’m doing right now, but suffice it to say that both dishes were excellent flavorful dishes.

My spouse ordered the bone in pork chop with herbed goat cheese. The dish was very savory. You can’t go wrong with the pork chop.

I had the crusted ahi tuna. It was not as savory, but was definitely a more complex dish. It was also excellent.

We also had the French onion soup. I’m not sure how they kept some of the bread crispy even in the soup, but it was very good.

The bartenders and other servers helped to keep our drinks filled. Loaf, (hope I’m spelling that right) our server, was a pleasure to speak with and very knowledgeable of the menu. We were very impressed with the service, atmosphere, and food. If you’re looking for a finer dining experience in Oahu, check out the Upstairs at Pier 38.

Such a beautiful restaurant and a lovely location for my grandmas birthday dinner. Thanks for making it memorable everyone! All of the staff were extremely friendly, informative, and punctual and ensured we were given a lovely dinner.

My family ordered the Spanish Octopus and French Onion soup to start and they were delicious! The octopus was tender, a little spicy and had a beautiful chimchurri on top providing exquisite flavor and tang. The French onion soup was boiling hot, cheesy and flavorful.

For the main course, I ordered the seared ahi and my son ordered the kids Mac and cheese. The seared ahi had the perfect sear with it being rare on the inside, the perfect texture for it. The accompanying brussel sprouts and potato’s were deliciously seasoned and I couldn’t get enough of it! Even the kids Mac and cheese was heavenly. The French fries were perfectly crisp and the Mac and cheese was cheesy and delicious!

I was able to try my mom’s misoyaki sea bass and that was deliciously tender and the misoyaki sauce was mild yet potent in flavor. Everyone else loved their dishes as well as all the plates were practically licked clean.

At the end, they brought out the cake we brought, and they were able to store for us, and we were able to sing happy birthday to grandma and they offered to cut and serve the cake for us as well. Even taking a group picture for our family.

Overall a truly memorable and wonderful experience for us and my grandma enjoyed her birthday. Thank you everyone!

Had dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Thought we’d try something different. Started with the French Onion and lobster bisque soup…both were delicious! We decided to get their rolls with the different types of spreads. Didn’t care for the one with the mushrooms in it. Hubby had the steak and I ordered the misoyaki Chilean seabass. I really enjoyed my dish! Hubby thought the steak tasted good. We were given a complimentary dessert which I thought was sweet and it was just enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. Ambiance was okay. We were sat by the window but on the side facing the parking lot. Would have been nice to have a better view and I did mention that it was our anniversary when I made the reservation but did not make a fuss when the hostess sat us. Plenty of parking. Good customer service. Probably a one and done for us as we’re more of a steak place and not so much seafood kinda people.

Food is delicious! The scallop pappardelle was delectable! And braised short rib huge! And fork tender. Salmon lollipops I probably could make a better dish but everything cooked just right with balanced seasoning and not over salted. Although pricey for what you get compared to higher excellent places in Vancouver BC or other places in the mainland but I’d return to try other dishes but not as often as I would many places in BC!
