Nestled amidst the hustle and bustle of Bloomfield Avenue lies the Cloverleaf Tavern, a well-established staple in Caldwell, New Jersey. It is currently the oldest business in town. George Dorchak Jr. founded the Cloverleaf Tavern in 1933. George was 23 years old when he borrowed money from his uncle to purchase the first liquor license in Caldwell after prohibition. The building at the time consisted of two stores: a vegetable stand and a bakery. The bakery was called The Bake Shop with a shamrock as it’s logo. We have discovered Taco Tuesday and they are great!
**We also had an issue with one of our steaks but Hansel made it right and was very accommodating. He’s awesome!**
All the food we had was excellent.
Fish and chips were nicely battered and fried
Lettuce cups were nice with well cooked steak
The steak sandwich better than average with quality meat.
They have an interesting beer program with a large selection.

I love this Pub, it’s my favorite local Bar. Staff is quick and very friendly. Food is creative, rotating and almost always delicious. Definitely not on the healthy side but the weekly changing menu is awesome. Plenty of variety on beers and other drinks. Even offering a MBA or PHD where you can complete a “beer punch list” to graduate

Went for pickle week. The were shy of vinegar. Acid was definitely lacking. They have a special hot sauce they sell. We should have been offered that. It might have helped. The fish tacos were overwhelmed by the mayo slaw. The Frickles are amazing.

Cloverleaf is one of those places that doesn’t need my review because everyone knows how good it is already- but I’m going to write one anyway. We love cloverleaf. Coming here when the weather is nice and sitting outside and listening to music while enjoying one of their refreshing drinks and delicious meals is excellent. And coming in the winter to cozy up inside with the friendly staff is great. Their staff are incredible. Food is always delicious. There’s a reason this place is so well known and well loved in town. It’s top notch!

We were in Caldwell, New Jersey for an estate sale, and as part of our tradition, we looked for a local spot to try afterward. Our neighbor, who grew up in Caldwell, suggested the Cloverleaf Tavern — the oldest business in town, dating back to 1933.
The first thing you notice is the beer list: about 150 options, from ciders to stouts, in bottles, cans, and on draft. There’s indoor and outdoor seating, with light rock music at just the right volume. The crowd is a mix of locals, families, and friends — everyone seems at home here.
We started with the Tavern Taquitos, filled with tender, well-seasoned chicken and fresh pico de gallo. The chipotle sauce had a nice, medium heat that built with each bite. The Asian lettuce wraps were another hit — crisp lettuce, flavorful filling, and the peanut sauce served on the side so you could control the balance.
For mains, the buttermilk chicken sandwich came with two generous pieces of chicken. At first glance, I worried it might be too bready, but the breading was light, the chicken was moist, and the flavors worked beautifully with the cilantro coleslaw, jalapeño ranch, and tzatziki sauce.
Portions here are large, the service is top-notch, and our server, Veronica, was attentive, witty, and full of personality.
We’ll definitely return to work our way through more of the menu — and the beer list. If you’re in Caldwell, the Cloverleaf Tavern is a must-visit.

Huge selection of beers. I’ll let you know when I drink all of them! Had the Reuben today it was one of their signature sandwiches and it was on point. Can’t go wrong with the side of waffle fries either. Had a bite of their signature sandwich, which was the cheesesteak and that was delicious.

Great beer choices, excellent variety and some awesome Belgian beers which are hard to find. That would be the reason for us to return and give this a second chance. They claim to make famous mouthwatering burgers, so this naturally was my selection. Ordered the burger with bleu cheese and mushrooms with L/T/O. It was the most underwhelming flavorless burger I think I have ever had anywhere. Very small for a whopping $22! We did like the attentive server, and my wife’s meal was good according to her. Will return for a second try at some future point in hope that this place can deliver on simple bar food.

Our server Donovan was a gentleman through and through. He was attentive, he was personable, he was knowledgable about the menu. And the other gentleman, Shane, was doing his job, clearing the tables, cleaning up and helping Donovan when he got tied up. So shout out to him too.
Everything was on point and I’d definitely go out of my way to come back there again.
