I did no cheese on my dish and it came out just fine. Very yummy! I liked this better then the other Mexican food in town and prices here were slightly better.
On return trips by my friends they say service was way better.
Tried it a few months later and was worse.
I think “Mexican food” in New Hampshire has been bastardized thanks to La Caretta. Chips and salsa is just a gimmick…Nothing authentic, nothing fresh…All the La Carettas, Don Ramon, El Tapetio, Mi Jalisco are all sharing mostly the same menus. Why? Because they all can be tracked back to employees, owners, bartenders all coming from LA Caretta, which is the “original” hardly authentic Mexican spot that thrived in this quality restaurant desert, that is New Hampshire. It became incestuous; meaning the employees would jump ship to work or own the offshoot restaurants. Theres drama involved between ownership and if they had any level of self awareness or a business sense, they’d “break away from the mold” and do something fast casual or even like El Colima did in Nashua before deciding to move to the one way Pearl Street with little parking, back befire they mailed it in. It WAS the most authentic you could find with its braised shanks, Mexican desserts and other goodies not found on menus around the state. Its just too easy to open these things and even easier to just let them close; its crap compared to real Mexican dishes and a shame.
Carlos, and assuming a lot know who I am referring to was the only shining light on these dumps. Could run a whole establishment by himself, tending bar. He is missed [heard he was in Concord Nh last I knew], but he pretty much opened all of these…maybe the exception being Colima?
Anyways. The only one that gets my business is Los Primos when we are in the mood, as it had a Colima chef at one point, but not sure anymore.
Even the Mexican place in Amherst, Monarquia, which was awesome when it opened, sold to owners of Jalisco and have ruined it with their crap food, lousy servers and lack of anything resembling solid Mexican food.
