Pro: Good Atmosphere (no doubts), clean, good music, clean (table clean up, very quick cleaning once someone leaves), special Jalapeño margaritas (OMG good, VERY impressed). Food we got was good/great (this is based on what we ordered). Salsa cone with regular tomato salsa, you’d have to recommend the other 3. Chips are good/crunch. Service was very tentative and always looking over if we needed anything.
Cons: Parking! front entrance limited, not sure if you can park at other business building (after hours) but its limited/space. Outdoor, i’d recommend a cover side for a more private coverage and a-little more outdoor lights, some music wouldn’t hurt. The Happy Hour drinks, needs work for sure (frozen margarita ok, but rocks needs a-lot of improvement). A BIG disappointment was the sopapillas, terrible tortilla was too tick (to much masa) the way it was cooked (maybe the oil) gave it a bad taste, not even the powder sugar could cover it up (sorry guys, that was not sopapillas), the honey was good.
Real question: would I return, that will be a yes!
The interior is adorable—warm lighting, rustic brick, and charming woven bird-nest décor hanging from the ceiling that gives the space a cozy, artisanal vibe.
The margaritas were excellent. I had La Patrona, which was smooth and perfectly balanced. My husband ordered La Tóxica, a spicy margarita with jalapeño-infused tequila and prickly pear—sweet, spicy, and delicious.
Food was solid. The Queso Fundido came in a cute cast-iron pan and hit the spot. The Maria Bonita Combination impressed with tender beef fajitas and cheesy enchiladas (flour tortillas were slightly dry). My Enchiladas Verdes had great flavor, though the chicken was a bit dry and could’ve used more salsa verde.
Service really stood out—Byron was friendly, patient, and welcoming. Bonus perks: happy hour daily from 3–6 PM, mariachi on Wednesdays and Fridays, and a DJ on Saturdays.
We’ll definitely be back, especially for margaritas and happy hour.
The food was absolutely delicious. We started with the tortilla soup, which was very flavorful and a perfect start to the meal. We also tried the mango and spinach salad, and it was outstanding!
Overall, the atmosphere, service, and food were great. We highly recommend María Bonita if you’re looking for an authentic Mexican cuisine.
The experience here between the service the ambience and the quality of the food is out of this world and I had to let them know that we had our favorite place in our hometown in sylmar California and of course I can’t tell them what I’m about to say here but this is our favorite place for Mexican food especially fajitas and margaritas!
Cannot be more grateful we came with family and we were so satisfied strongly recommend this place.
It is a little bit loud due to the construction time and the joyous participation of everybody in the restaurant.
Other than that and that wasn’t a complaint it’s just a little more info for those who might be sensitive to sound this place was fantastic!
