Airport sushi with restaurant style seating. Got teriyaki chicken to settle me down during flight. Food was fine, service was fast, prices were airport prices. One of the better options at IAD I think.

This was one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences I’ve ever had. When the bill came, the staff leaned in way too close — almost hovering — and stared directly at my receipt as I was deciding on the tip. It felt like I was being watched and pressured, with zero privacy. When I tried to choose a custom tip amount, she cut me off and said, “People usually just give 18%,” without even letting me finish. It honestly felt like mafia-style pressure, and I’ve never felt so uncomfortable or disrespected at a restaurant before.

As for the food — my brother liked the curry, but the sushi roll portion was shockingly small. Like, embarrassingly small for the price.

This experience left me feeling upset and even a bit shaken. I hope management takes this seriously, because no one should be made to feel intimidated or cornered while simply trying to pay for their meal.

I was so uncomfortable that I just handed her $10 in cash to end the situation (the bill was $43 after tax, even though the service didn’t deserve it.

Food comes out quick , but both miso ramen and tonkotsu ramen was a it on the bland side. Tempura udon was also a bit too salty like they boiled the noodles on the broth instead of pouring the soup into boiled noodles .

There are many great food options at National Airport. For a sit down experience, go to Matsutake Sushi. The wait for a table on a Wednesday afternoon in June wasn’t long. Service is speedy.

If you like cream cheese, get the Buffalo Shrimp sushi. It’s shrimp tempura with cream cheese, sriracha, mayo, and a few other items. It’s tasty!

I enjoyed their Sauvignon Blanc for a refreshing option before a long flight to Seattle.

Great place for sushi at the airport. The service is quick and efficient. For a starter, I had the crab wontons which were delicious and had more filling than others I’ve had. For my main, I choose the Chesapeake roll, the crab and cream cheese were excellent. Good drink selection and don’t forget to get some Sake.

environment was calm and neat (demure and mindful). service was great. everyone including chef was warm, welcoming.

surprisingly they had uni from California which tasted so fresh with slight sweetness. the amount of food was satisfying as well. the containers were tiny cute cups sculpted from cucumber which brought the natural refreshing smell.

uni was $15 a piece. other sushi/sashimi on the menu had decent price.

Sushi was very good, didn’t expect the fish to be this fresh in an airport. My kids also loved their udon.

Although the price is not low, considering the quality, exceeded our expectation for an airport restaurant.

The service was good, although we were there in a less busy time (7PM), we had kids traveling with us, the staff was friendly and accommodating.

I do agree with other reviews that it is a bit awkward that they do stare at you when you trying to pay your bill on their portable checkout device. I just clicked on 18% (the lowest option by default) quickly and move on with my day. I have seen other places with the lowest default at 25%, so this is not too bad IMO.

Ok sushi bar in DCA airport. Nothing was particularly amazing, but it wasn’t bad either. Nice atmosphere especially for airport. Servers and sushiyasan were nice. The tamago was not made there; looked and tasted store bought, but at least given a big piece. Nori was not crispy. Many types of fish were precut in bar cooler for easy assembly, which usually dries out the fish a bit. Nigiri salmon was pretty good and good size – best thing we had. Rolls neatly cut. Nigiri orders are priced per piece, not two. Not Japanese operated. Clean and nice presentation.

Quick Sushi Stop before Flight

I recently dined at Matustake Sushi, and it served as a convenient spot for a quick bite before my flight. The overall experience had its ups and downs.

Order Details:
– Salmon Sushi ($9)
– Pork Katsu Curry ($19)
– Tempura Udon ($18)

Pros:
– Matustake Sushi is a good option for a fast meal before catching a flight. The service was quick, allowing me to enjoy my meal without feeling rushed.
– The food was served promptly, and I appreciated that aspect, especially when time is limited before a flight.

Cons:
– One of the main drawbacks was the lack of privacy in the seating area. The restaurant felt cramped, and it was challenging to have a quiet meal due to the airport’s bustling atmosphere.
– Additionally, I found the prices to be on the higher side for the quality and portion size.

Overall Impression:
Matustake Sushi provided a suitable option for a pre-flight meal, considering its location within the airport. While the food was decent, the limited seating privacy and higher prices were notable downsides. I might consider returning for the convenience, but it’s important to be aware of the potential trade-offs.
