I went on Tomahawk Tuesday, and unfortunately they ran out, but the manager, Samuel B., stopped by and made it right, which I really respected.
As for drinks, the bartender with the long beard the kind of guy who just looks like he knows cocktails was Jacob, I believe. I told him to do his thing, and he made me a reposado passion fruit cocktail that honestly deserves a permanent spot on the menu.
Macy was the server. She was really nice and smiled a lot. She gave some good recommendations and allowed us to explore the menu without fear.
The mussels were flavorful but not spicy. The corn tasted like it came straight from Mexico, which is a compliment. The mac and cheese was baked, though it didn’t really taste baked if that makes sense. I still prefer my wife’s, but it was solid.
For the main course, I had the homemade pasta with short rib. The short rib was good, but the pasta itself could have used a bit more flavor and just wasn’t my personal favorite.
Overall, I’d rate it a 4.8, but I’d give it a 5 since most of the critiques come down to personal preference rather than execution.
I came here for something left with the empty feeling of i did come here for dinner right? the feeling of disappointment grew with every time the waitress decided to spill water in a dirty glass or 2 either on the table or,in my plate or just in general. Maybe it was her distaste that we didn’t order drinks? Or maybe the overly dim atmosphere. The taste of my WELL DONE hanger steak was the most unsatisfying experience because i see fire in the background a big grill and chefs putting beef on the hot grill racks a very quiet kitchen no doubt you would have the impression that the temperature request for a medium steak would be cooked to perfection. I was wrong. Or the fact that my waitress failed to inform the table of items that weren’t available THE FISH even though the restaurant was only open for a mere 3hrs. The fries COLD. The pork shank was just pork could’ve displayed a better presentation not much flavor to write home about. The wings Ive had better, the calamari was ok, Lets not forget the Chicken Piccata that should’ve been advertised as a appetizer. The price for the dishes alone you would think it would be fulfilling. Especially since it was a “meal” but i digress. To soften the dis taste we were presented with Beignet . Which appeared to be the highlight of the entire meal. The hype of the restaurant shouldn’t have left the crowd that stated it was a “fantastic place for a meal.” Plenty of things to work on seemingly as if the marketing doesn’t match its filler restaurant.
Parking in the area can be a bit tricky if you are hoping for street spots, but a deck across the street at Publix and several paid lots within walking distance make it manageable.
The moment I arrived, I was welcomed by a warm and personable host, and shortly after, Julie greeted me at the table with attentiveness that immediately set the tone for the evening. I mentioned my friend was running a few minutes late, and she graciously ensured I was comfortable while waiting.
Though an espresso martini was not on the menu, Julie cheerfully accommodated my request. When my friend arrived, we ordered drinks, my friend opting for a tequila-forward cocktail, and began exploring the menu.
Though compact, it offered all the elements you would hope for in a thoughtful, curated dining experience. I went for half-price oysters, a Caesar salad, and fries, while my friend chose the piccata. The Caesar was excellent, though it had a subtle twist that did not fully win me over; the fries, on the other hand, were perfectly crisp, and the espresso martini did not disappoint.
The space itself is far more intimate than I anticipated, and it filled up quickly, giving the evening a cozy, lively energy. Impeccably clean and clearly cared for by its staff, The Crunkleton balances attention to detail with a warm, approachable vibe.
Overall, it is a solid choice for a business dinner or casual night out, offering attentive service, thoughtful cocktails, and a menu that hits just the right notes.
Our server, Macey, was exceptional—kind, attentive, and genuinely pleasant throughout the evening. The General Manager, Samuel, also went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and satisfied, which did not go unnoticed. The food was excellent, especially the hanger steak, and the desserts were outstanding. The warm and cozy atmosphere was also greatly appreciated, especially on such a cold evening.
However, I did want to bring one concern to your attention. Another server, Julie, who was assisting our waitress, had an interaction with our table that felt unprofessional. A drink was placed down on the table forcefully, to the point where it could have shattered. While nothing was spilled or broken, the manner in which it was handled stood out and detracted from an otherwise great experience.
I’m sharing this not to complain, but to provide honest feedback, as the rest of our visit was truly excellent. We enjoyed ourselves overall and plan to return.
The biggest issue was the horrible management. Rumors is the GM was fired from his last restaurant for SA! Problems weren’t handled well, and management did not seem prepared to run a busy service. For a place that markets itself as upscale, the execution falls far short.
Plenty of better options in Raleigh. Won’t be returning.
We always start with fire-roasted oysters and dry-rub wings (charred just right, with an amazing Alabama white sauce), and usually get their famous steak… simple, bold, and perfectly cooked.
Service is always relaxed but attentive, and you can tell the folks behind the bar and kitchen care deeply about hospitality — whether you’re just grabbing a drink or making a whole evening of it. Highly recommend for date night or a night out with friends. One of our go-to spots downtown. Definitely recommend.
