Starting with the good:
Service was very good and friendly. The atmosphere was nice, especially after the music volume was lowered to a level that was tolerable. The wine list was really good – it is nice to have some Italian/French offerings in an area that tends to only have local wines. The wines compliment the food very well.

The not so good:
The food is mediocre at best. If you are a foodie like we are, and actually know either how to cook yourself or have traveled extensively enough to know what really fine cuisine is, you will *not* be impressed by this restaurant. If, on the other hand, you think Olive Garden constitutes haute cuisine, you might think this is really good food.
The arugula salad was fresh enough but the dressing was unbalanced in the extreme. It was like tasting nothing but raw lemon juice. Very sour. The lasagna bolognese was not even as good as the frozen lasagna we buy at the grocery. The butternut squash ravoli was not bad, but a bit too sweet.

It was not a bad experience but the food is not compelling enough for us to return.

Came up to SLO from San Diego for the long holiday weekend and even though the restaurant was packed(luckily we made a reservation the day before), we had excellent service and food! Our server Melissa had several recommendations for wine and food for our family of five. We had burrata, escargot, and the warm buttery involtini to start. We tried several pasta dishes and an osso bucco for the table to share. Everyone loved their food, we had to taste the tiramisu and gelato! Don’t skip this place! We will definitely be back next time we are in the area visiting in a few months!

La Locanda Review
La Locanda delivers authentic Northern Italian cuisine in an intimate, welcoming setting. The food is fantastic, with highlights like the lasagna Bolognese, butternut squash ravioli, and fresh salads that burst with flavor from local ingredients. Every dish feels homemade and thoughtfully prepared, making it some of the best Italian I’ve had in California.
Hospitality shines through with attentive, friendly service that makes you feel like family—servers offer spot-on wine and menu recommendations. The cozy patio adds to the relaxing vibe, perfect for a memorable evening

Small but beautiful restaurant, the service was excellent, the food all was fresh and homemade! I had the burrata salad and it was so refreshing with cucumber noodles, tomatoes, and of course burrata cheese on a bed of arugula with a very light and refreshing vinaigrette dressing. For the main dish I tried their lasagna bolognese and it was creamy and savory and just plain delicious! For dessert we tried their chocolate mousse and their tiramisu both were incredibly soft and delicious and definitely not over sweetened. Definitely worth the money you pay to eat there.

We would have loved to try this place. My partner and I went last night around 7:30, for a reservation we made to celebrate my birthday. We arrived, and were seated promptly… then we were completely ignored for about 10-15 minutes while the place was nearly empty, apart from two other parties, both which had already been served. I’ll be charitable and refrain from trying to divine the motives or reasons for why we were ignored.

The place is cute, and the menu looked delicious, but unfortunately we felt so unwelcomed that we just left. Hopefully, your mileage will vary!

(We went to a restaurant up the street and then played pinball afterward, so it was a lovely birthday regardless).

First, let’s talk about greed. Yes greed. If your kitchen is already running an hour behind, don’t seat more walk-ins for extra cash. We didn’t beg to be squeezed in; we asked if a table was available. Our 2 young children were literally crying in fatigue and hunger before the food arrived 1.5 hours later. When the lady of the house came by to asked how things were, we barely said “it was fine after the food arrived”, before she gave a weak smile and ran off before we could say more. No apologies, nothing. Wasn’t our server’s fault so we didn’t take it out on him but it sounded like this was typical behavior of the management. The tables around us waited even longer for their meals. Top it off, the mushroom risotto didn’t have any mushroom flavor to it, the pistachio pasta was bland, dry, and cheese dominated, the aubergine rolls were basically like eating a super salty melted cheese roll. The ravioli was the only good dish, though salty. 2 stars for the sake of our server otherwise, less. By the way, same experience as the other 2 star review. They’re response implying he was lying about the times is false. We can vouch that he wasn’t the only one who waited that long for their meal.

We initially went to Giuseppe and given the 2 hrs wait we strolled to Laconda and it was almost empty. We were pleasantly surprised by the food and feel like it deserves more attention. We ordered three pastas and they were very authentic. Just the right quantity of sauce. The taste was simple and bold the way it’s supposed to be. The pasta has generous portions and meant to be shared.

Good place for classic Italian favorites.
* The warm bread and fresh service of oil and vinegar was a nice treat
* Tortellini in brodo was delicious, as was the arugula salad for starters. Bravo!
* Lasagna amazing, pillow soft, we’d pull the nutmeg in the sauce back just a touch
* would be good if you could pour the WBTG at the table. A little more work, but feels more sincere. Selection of by the glass is good
* Tap water seemed chlorinated; Recommend you either filter it or not make tap an option, tap is not pleasant.
* Carbonara was excellent, maybe make the pasta a little more al dente?
* Tiramisu was soft and delicious, lovely texture and moist
* Overall the price for pasta is reasonable for the quality, frankly a good value for the overall experience

Beautiful garden for dinner. Our food was really good. Beef ravioli was fantastic, the risotto with mushrooms, the capacious, and pasta with pistachio pesto were all great. Very nice menu. We will definitely come back to La Locanda!
