Doro once felt like a hidden gem — a place where technique met creativity, where that perfectly cooked duck with vibrant purée and those truffle-topped grouper dishes weren’t just excellent meals, but evidence of a kitchen pushing itself. On early visits, everything felt intentional: the plating was beautiful but purposeful, the flavors balanced between richness and brightness, the overall experience carefully considered.

Returning for a seat at the chef’s table — what should be the restaurant’s showcase we thought — revealed that the attentiveness that once made special occasion dining feel … special was not there. We felt we were watching a space that seemed more focused on being a social hub for regulars than on delivering the elevated cuisine it once championed. The owner never spoke to us and the table was a view of the kitchen and the staff socializing.

The menu has not changed much in months. While consistency can be a virtue, this feels less like confidence in a strong concept and more like complacency. The technical skills are still there and the kitchen clearly knows how to handle premium ingredients but without that creative spark and attention to growth that separates truly special restaurants from merely good ones.

Doro still has the foundation: the technique, the ingredients, the potential. But potential needs nurturing. Right now, this feels like a restaurant that’s decided it’s arrived rather than one that’s still striving. For the prices and the promises of an upscale experience, diners deserve more than a greatest hits menu. I hope this is just a phase.

I was in Jacksonville for the weekend, and my girlfriend and her sister would not stop hyping up Doro. They were talking about Doro like it was a 2013 Andrew Wiggins.

We walked into the chic interior, with a bottle of Chianti under the arm as it’s BYOB. Something about sipping Chianti out of a nice wine glass…idk man. It makes me feel something. It makes me feel important. It makes me feel like I’m under the Florentine sky without a care in the world.

We went with the charred octopus ($20), pork schnitzel ($16), fish of the day, the crispy short ribs ($47), and some seared scallops ($20) that were to die for.

Everything hit, but that crispy short rib was operating on a different level. It was putting a show on. A crispy exterior with a tender interior, it made me question every other short rib dish I’ve ever had. I was inspired.

The portions were on the smaller side, but my girlfriend gave me the scout ahead of time so I demolished an Angie’s sub a few hours before dinner. It’s always nice when you do your pregame preparation and are able to get a clean read of the defense. I felt like Tom Brady.

We tried Doro for the first time and it was delicious!! The appetizers and entrees were excellent and so was the service! The only suggestion is to add ice tea to the list of available beverages, we are in the south you have to have ice tea. I love that there is free valet parking.

Simply put, a phenomenal and memorable dining experience. The staff was extremely friendly and did a great job of highlighting some of the restaurant’s best food selections. The flavor combinations and profiles of each dish blew us away. My wife and I made comments about how delish everything was after each bite that we took. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area. You will not be disappointed. As far as our food selection picks, I highly recommend the burrata and peach and pork schnitzel first courses, the short rib as a second course, and the creme de pot as a dessert. All are pictured as part of this review. Our hats are off to Chef Chris and his amazing kitchen and front of house team. Extremely well done and we’ll be back for sure!

The atmosphere was very simple and clean. The food was very good, including all the salads that we tried. Several of our party had the special wreckfish, And loved it. The chicken dishes were very good and so was the vegan Meal. One of our guest had the ribeye and it was done perfectly.

For an upscale and pricier restaurant, the service was a bit lacking in polish and speed

Overall, a nice place

My first time here. I’ve heard great things and was excited to try it.
We had appetizers and the pork schnitzel was delicious. I did not enjoy their buratta.

I had the market fish of the day which was Tile fish with vegetable and arugula puree. I thought the fish was dry and a bit bland and the arugula puree was strong and overwhelming. My dinner companions loved their snapper and chicken dish.

The 5 star portion of the whole meal are the desserts. The homemade ice cream was delicious. So were the dark chocolate pot de creme. Amazingly delicious desserts!

The dinners are pricey, the place is small and cramp, our service was really good, and the food ranged from bland to delicious. Because of the location, price, and the hit or miss of the food, I’m not sure I would recommend it.

If I’m in the area, I’d love to go back and have the homemade ice cream again. That stood out for everyone in my dinner party.

Chilling weather did not deter us from experiencing the inviting atmosphere of Doro. Friendly faces welcomed us to our cozy table. Informed of the fish of the day, we settled into an exciting menu. Finally deciding on the charred octopus, seared scallops, and duck breast, we waited anxiously. Perfectly cooked, all dishes were seasoned well and delicious. Well balanced flavors helped lift the star of each dish. Full and satisfied, the dessert capped the night, as only panna cotta can. We look forward to our next visit to Doro.

I hold a great appreciation for Doro, notwithstanding its elevated pricing, as the culinary execution is impeccably precise. My solitary dining experience was thoroughly enjoyable, prompting eager anticipation for my next visit. The menu, characterized by innovation and simplicity, offers a succinct set of options without confining patrons to a particular culinary trajectory.

The commendable staff, distinguished by their politeness and adeptness at addressing diverse needs and inquiries, contributes significantly to the overall positive dining experience. When positioned at the bar, one can observe a chef meticulously crafting appetizers, showcasing a captivating attention to detail that renders each dish a masterpiece. Notably, the consistency in the preparation of identical items is a testament to the culinary precision maintained.

Navigating the menu reveals a well-organized layout, with appetizers on the left and entrees on the right. Upon flipping the menu, a splendid array of fine wines, champagnes, liquors, and other libations awaits, catering to a spectrum of discerning tastes.

While Doro may not boast expansive dimensions, its service excellence and inviting ambiance seamlessly compensate for any initial reservations or uncertainties, ensuring a dining experience that surpasses expectations.

I always enjoy dinner at Doro. It’s the kind of place to go if you love presentation and food that looks as good as it tastes. Everything is plated beautifully.
I recently stopped by just to have dessert, so my pics are of the strawberry pistachio pavlova.
Yes it’s pricey, and the portions are not large, but this isn’t Outback Steakhouse so I don’t go there expecting that. I go there when I want to be dazzled by what they put on a plate. The ingredients are always fresh, seasonal and unique. I try things there that I might not even think to try. But they are always presented in a way that I’ll eat every bite and just stop short of licking the plate!
I’ve never actually sat at one of the tables so I don’t know what that’s like- I really enjoy sitting at the bar/chef’s table and watching the food be prepared and asking questions about what’s on the plate.
